This board use to be quite active talking about Glencore. Maybe we are all just too depressed over the constant bad Glencore news to post anymore. I know I have stopped posting but still check out the board stupidly waiting for something positive to happen with Glencore.
This stock just seems so pointless. My only hope is that dividend comes back 2021 - but I see no indication things are looking up. Maybe we will get some of their investigations resolved soon and that will help.
hah ... imagine they did split off trading... it would be back to like before they bought xstrata.
They should have never bought them.. I think that was their downfall.
A pint bet? It will cost less to bet 10 shares of glencore by then the way things are going. :)
I sure hope they Don't cancel next year's and instead make up a little for this year's cut.
I called it on the first dividend suspension but really thought they would have at least given us half. But as usual they were not good with their money and spent foolishly. Two failed buybacks and two dividend cuts within 5 years. Shame on me for having any belief in them.
Spot on scoop. Ivan spends like a drunken sailor when things are looking good. He learned nothing from last debt crisis. Stupid worthless buybacks.
Great - so now we have current investigations in US, UK and Switzerland?
Price is lower on the US market .
I am happy too! Have not been posting lately during the apocalypse but still following the board.
Nice to see this moving in the right direction.
Now let's get our dividend back!
You know what they will do with the extra money.. ... more buybacks! Just kidding... or I really hope that is a joke!
I too use GLNCY instead of GLCNF when pricing on US market. GLCNF is, like you said, thinly traded compared to GLNCY and will not usually have up to date pricing because of the sparse trades.
Awhile back I looked up what the difference in these were:
GLCNF: This is a foreign ordinary
GLNCY: This is a 2:1 ADR (American depository receipt)
These are two vehicles to purchase foreign stock that is not traded on your native exchange. There is fee & tax differences between the two but did not really investigate too much as it is no use to me.
I could do this all day long. This really lifts my spirits.
It has been deferred for now. Let's hope things get right with the world and they can bring the dividend back.
What a day today!
Looks like that fly farted and the markets like it!
Guess that was higher than expected causing the spike down.
Then again in this environment a fly farting has the potential to send the whole thing crashing.
What happened? I turn around and now its dropping.
Not paying close attention here but whats up?
10 more days like today please!
I am holding out hope that in the past commodity prices are first to rise coming out of a crash and we can get back on track.
Other than that - I am mad that management threw all that money away on buybacks WHILE increasing debt.
It's like they learned nothing about reducing debt from the debt crash.
I think the price is already reflecting the dividend cut.
Last time they took cost cutting measures during the debt crash, the market responded favorably and the share price went up. I think the same thing is happening.
All I know is that if management ever announces share buybacks in the future, that is my signal to sell. This is the 2nd time they have had to make cuts/savings after buybacks.
I am here but not happy. But this is something I thought would happen and people thought I was crazy and was told companies never do this after declaring a dividend. But we live in crazy times!!
I was also speculating/hoping that a cancelled dividend was already baked in to the share price. I was wrong in a good way! It seems like the market likes this idea.
Now - Why didn't management pay down debt instead of buybacks!!!!! Horrible decision not only in hindsight but a lot of us saw that as they were doing it. Inept!
In today's world I truly have no idea.
If it is better for the company to retain the money for now and then have them pay us a bigger one later, I am for it.
Just want the company to do whats best for long term. And no more buybacks!!! Figured I would just throw that in.
