mishmos - I doubt SMT's holdings will look very different from now when "normality returns". Its managers invest with a 5 year+ timeframe in mind. So unless they lose confidence that specific holdings can ride out the storm, they'll simply ignore the current backdrop.

Unless you know something I don't, Opti normally publishes full year results in May or June for previous full year ending 31 December. In which case, they're not due for a few months still.

Alwaysone - I agree. Stripping out global market movement, there seems to be some positive momentum here - for now at least. Haven't seen that in quite a while!

Something to do with Russia/Ukraine crisis methinks. Global markets have been falling. IQE won't be immune.

I guess investors view SBTX's collateral value as too unpredictable to fully factor in, given Skin's current limited earnings visibility & its resulting share price volatility. Even when SBTX traded at around 71p back in May & Oct 2021, it barely moved the dial on Opti's price. The slower than (SOH's) predicted progress in transforming Opti from a research company to a profitable commercial one has been the biggest drag on share price. Not helped by current global market jitters. 2022 could just be the year to change that. But I was really hoping last year would be - or even the year before that.

Having awarded himself 7.7m shares through IQE's bonus scheme (correct that, I meant, having been granted 7.7m shares by the Remuneration Committee in recognition of his outstanding service to corporate losses), he suddenly found himself with an enormous income tax bill.

seaofdebt - I may not have madr myself quite clear, as I agree he has an interest from day one. He also needed £millions pronto to settle an income tax bill on his vast share awards (telling in itself. How can he - or any of the other Directors - possibly justify such large share awards for such poor company performance?) Anyhow, my interpretation is that he entered the sale & repurchase agreement, fully expecting IQE's share price to rise well above the strike price before 2 August 2022. That way, he'd have likely secured an interest-free loan - or even one that paid HIM interest. That may still happen of course. But it's looking less of a given. Which might mean he actually has to shell out a few quid for the £millions of shares he's awarded himself (with approval from the totally unbiased remuneration committee of course). Cue the miniature violins.

Drew really only has an economic interest in the shares when he has to buy them back at 43.96p. And the deadline for doing that is fast approaching - 2 August 2022. A couple of years or so ago, he probably thought all would be rosey by then. Now not so much.

Don't think Drew's likely to sell any before 2 August 2022, as that's his deadline for repurchasing 11M shares @ 43.96p. But once his repurchase is complete, it's anyone's guess.

Fair enough (& apologies on that point). But Elrico's generally very much more in the loop than most other Opti investors. And IMHO, O'Hara should never have let that develop. There are official investor communication channels which should always be respected. I don't know all the ins & outs of Elrico's relationship with Opti. But I believe he's part private investor, part paid for researcher/communicator. If so, to me that could easily lead to conflicts of interest. At least with Tom Winnifrith, you know where you stand (in my case, totally ignoring him).

CaptainPicard - afraid so. But in line with latest No. 10 policy, you can now party from day 1. As long as you're working, not twerking.

Elrico - I know you do a lot of time-consuming interviews & research and that some of it isn't kept behind a paywall either. So kudos for that! But IMHO, it would help build investor confidence if SOH channelled all his updates through public platforms / RNS, rather than via a select few individuals. That way, everyone would hear everything simultaneously & firsthand, direct "from the horse's mouth". To me, choosing to communicate any other way just looks suspect & amateurish.

CaptainPicard - Not really. As I said in my previous post, "to draw conclusions from the performance of a single share in any fund is always fraught with danger". A 6% rise on an 8% holding is less than 0.5% gain. That's insignificant compared to how the remaining 92% perform.

DorsetLSE - this news hasn't upset SMT's price, though, which remains up on the day (as are SoftBank AND Nvidia at the time of writing). Not altogether surprising, as SMT's Nvidia holding represents "only" around 3%. I'm not saying you have, but to draw conclusions from the performance of a single share in any fund is always fraught with danger.

There are fewer surer ways to lose money than by following broker ratings IMHO. Brokers & analysts nearly always have a vested interest (either holding the shares they comment on or being paid by the client to conduct "research"). When things don't go to plan, they simply change their mind, adjusting their recommendation from a strong buy to a hold or even an avoid. Do your own research then follow your gut instinct. But unless you've money to burn, it very rarely pays to heed brokers or analysts.
