' I can't even watch the TV news any more because that's what it'll all be about.'
I did say that this is the media's biggest story since 9/11 and they won't let go of it without a struggle.
I think mask-wearing and social distancing were good ideas and it's obvious, for example, that travelling on the London Underground is a good way of spreading the disease, but if Merkel has her way, with her warning of a second wave, the media will have a story that will just run and run.
What if a second wave seems to have been brought under control, only for a third wave to start?
Would we then close the world down on a permanent basis, because the alternative would be to allow people to die?
In the end, governments will have to accept that people are going to die of something.
In the end, it could be that humanity will be wiped out by a meteorite and not only will there be nothing that governments can do about it, but the media won't even be able to report it, which could be a source of consolation in advance.
What worries me especially is that there will likely be far worse pandemics in the future and one shudders to imagine what a 'lockdown' would look like in such circumstances.
It seems like a strong argument against long term share ownership and in favour of turning one's lawns into crops.
