The cases currently are low - the first person having the NU variant giving it to a second person is a doubling of cases.
Why don't you and others wait for the WHO to make their statement and follow ups by the scientists in the coming days/weeks.

The NU variant has 30 mutations in the spike protein.
We do not know at this stage if ability of the current vaccines will offer the same protection as with the previous variants - lets hope so, when we hear.
Concern and panic are two different things

The bottom line is we may end up needing a yearly or 6 monthly vaccination against Covid 19 - that is fine by me, but would obviously prefer it to fizzle out in the coming years.

Current vaccines are likely to have an effect against the NU variant of which currently there is a handful of cases, and even if not quite so effective, the vaccines can quickly be tweaked.
