It is the sort of measures much more likely to be needed after a prolonged period of a Labour government. Joe public need not to forget that.

The net result is that money doing nothing on the balance sheet is being returned to shareholders.

Share price up about 170p in the last 4 weeks - Brent currently comfortably above $100 at $112 with the possibility of pushing up further towards the recent highs - Shell continuing to purchase it's own shares - Shell is currently a cash machine.

It is not a special dividend - it is a return of capital be way of creation and redemption of 'B' shares.

The record time for entitlement to the B shares and the Share Consolidation will be 6pm (London time) on Friday 13 May 2022 in respect of the existing ordinary shares. The B shares are expected to be issued on Monday 16 May 2022, and the Share Consolidation will occur on the same date. The redemption and cancellation of the B shares is expected to occur on Tuesday 17 May 2022.
Payment from 'B' shares should be made by Tuesday 31 May 2022

Already been through it.
End result is that you will have cash to invest wherever you like, rather than cash sitting on the balance sheet doing nothing, same with the 14.7p dividend payment.

The cash is proceeds from asset sales - Aviva have no use for it.

A consolidation plays no part in the mechanism of returning cash - it is a separate cosmetic procedure simply to keep a similar price per share.

There is NO benefit to shareholders - you are simply being returned money from the business
that you have put into the investment in the first place.

The only benefit in the longer term is obtaining Aviva shares at a good price level - That could be Tuesday,Friday or at anytime in the future whether that is before or after the return and consolidation.

you are wrong - The consolidation will be just a cosmetic exercise just like any other consolidation that takes place in other companies.
Like a 1 for 2 consolidation reducing shares by 50% but doubling the cost of each share.

it is simply money that is being returned to shareholders as Aviva have no other use for it.
Without a cosmetic consolidation you could have retained the same amount of shares after the return but they would be worth about a £1 less - so NO overall difference in value of the holding, with or without a consolidation.

An advantage would be obtaining aviva at a price level that you are happy with, which hopefully would give you good returns over the longer term.
The return of capital via 'B' shares is a neutral for any potential investor and the consolidation is just a cosmetic exercise .
I top sliced on the 29th March at more than 20p above the current price. My next purchase or sale will be determined by price level alone and nothing else
