It is not the same as selling shares in the business - Aviva are returning CASH that is not invested in the business - you will retain the same percentage share IN THE BUSINESS.
An investor will have the option if they so wish to INCREASE their percentage ownership with a further investment in the business from the cash return.

Consolidation has nothing to do with the return of cash sitting on the balance sheet.
Aviva have decided on a consolidation to keep the share price at a similar level as before the return, rather than see a £1 fall.

I prefer the possibility that 4.2 Billion shares may be purchased with £2 Billion rather than 3 Billion.
Some strange shareholders holding for the longer term may prefer the latter .

you can take out a forward at a differing price of course to take into account the fact that overnight funding costs are built into the spread,but most of the time I don't.
Any charges on IG which I find insignificant can be found on their site.

I didn't open an SB this morning, I closed one.
All of the many recent SB's have been for a small £200 a point.
The many that I opened below 30 ranged from £1,000 - £10,000 a point as I perceived the downside risk more limited.
I always keep a very large amount of cash in IG, as I do in my share trading account at HSBC
