UK national debt interest is based on coupons paid on treasury notes/bonds rather than what the UK base rate happens to be. The current yields are quite a bit below that of before the 2008 financial crisis.

Higher base rates do of course affect the amount of interest that the BOE have to pay banks with money deposited with them.

I have had some ripple for free for quite a long time now, having previously traded it (no longer). Hardly ever check the value, but just did - certainly of no greater worth now than when I went into the for 'free' situation.

Maybe a peak base rate of 4.5 to 5% , if inflationary pressures appear to be diminishing in an acceptable time frame.
Lloyds near term price movements will be dictated not by profit taking which will always be taking place on an upward trajectory, but more by general sentiment about the 2023 economy and beyond with possible re ratings of bank stocks now that the decade long period of very cheap money is in the rear view mirror.

Shell is a good example of a company that was once increasing borrowing to maintain the dividend. Since cutting the dividend and thus breaking the record of having not cut since the end of WW2 the share price has getting on for doubling in price for other reasons despite the quarterly dividend being cut from 47 cents to only 16 Cents. The business is in a better place now so more dividend increases can be expected in dividends in the future..

Unfortunately the amount that a business decides to pay out in dividends from profits (and in some cases from borrowing to help fund a dividend) doesn't determine company valuations on the market.

really? - not that simple - eps may be one of a combination of metrics that are used in Lloyds Long term incentive plans. You would have to do a bit of digging into the various plans,if interested in the overall goals that would trigger various bonuses and the amount.

I think most of the investors on here would happy for them to get a 100% bonus if £1 a share could be achieved within the next couple of years, and they wouldn't mind how it is achieved, excluding a consolidation..

it was no reflection about what I thought about the valuation - my opinion is that £6 is no where near expensive - simply a matter of hitting a selling figure to make a very small percentage sale taking into consideration previous purchase prices and the amount of shares held - HSBC remains my largest holding in my portfolio.

I don't include dividends as a way to calculate capital costs.

I have been left with 25% of my original 3i purchase having sold 75% by the time it reached about £6.15p at the end oh July 2016.
Many thousands of profit on sale, and of course the remaining 25% for free - shame i sold at all.
