It is pure common sense that an investor should not keep an investment that they are unhappy with, when apparently according to those same people that there are far better alternatives available.

stock market investments should be for the very long term - decades if started from a young age.
Many think that it is a casino.
My short term 'casino' fun plays come in the form of spread bets.
An investor shouldn't be investing money that they will need back at some specific point in time.

of course a constant £32 Billion market would automatically be an increase in share price with reducing number of shares.
Same share price obviously means a reduced market cap with reducing share numbers.

Does the period of time matter that much for a capital value re rating?. Anyone investing now can get over 10% yearly returns. Same profitability with ever decreasing number of shares without a movement in share price means ever increasing yields available. Basically a long term win even without an increase in market cap from the current £32 Billion.

A little mark up in Lloyds shares on inflation news

They appear to have missed out the fact that returns of over 10% are being made to shareholders including tranches of £2 Billion investments in Lloyds shares.

In 2016 yield on offer to investors was about 3.75%

Doctors, if getting their demands for a 35% salary increase, which would come from tax payers along with other over the top demands would help to create an inflationary spiral. Until inflation is under control, people will just have to take a hit regarding income increases.

precisely - prices don't go up without the demand. No shortage of people in pubs, restaurants, taking holidays etc.

core inflation which does not include food/energy did not fall - remained at a high 6.2%.
I said months ago that base rates needed to be a lot closer to the core inflation rate. Increased rates dampens demand. The base rate is not high by historical standards.

currently at a massive 13.5% - looking like another big real terms reduction in my HSBC pension this year.

MPC need to increase the base rate again in a few weeks time - I imagine that they will go for 0.25%, but should be 0.75% to take it to 5%, where it should have been at a few months ago. The MPC were slow off the mark at the start of the base rate increasing cycle.

Incorrect - A1 keeps posting with wishful thinking, and I respond with the facts.
Potential investors would prefer to know the facts rather than what an individual wants, when we have a BOD's deciding such things.
As I said, talk of 'specials' is totally pointless unless we are at a stage in the financial year were the BOD's would consider such a thing, which most certainly would not be until Feb 2024.

maybe you could wait to speculate on a 'special' at the 2023 final results - that would be a bit more relevant compared to the current position.

The capital retained from 2019 profits has been FULLY RETURNED to shareholdrers . It is not an amount sitting on the balance sheet never to be touched.

no amount of moaning changes the facts.

The fact is the BOD's currently have a policy of being able to return excess capital by way of buybacks or special dividends. As the current market cap is way below the £49 Billion asset value, they have decided that long term investors would greatly benefit in the reduction of capital.
No amount of tedious whinging about the facts are going to alter the facts.
I would not whinge if they decided to stop backbacks forever starting tomorrow. Investors who are not happy with their investments should seek alternatives.
