I think the top priority is to get inflation under control no matter what the consequences are on GDP.

I had a very large real terms cut in my HSBC pension (based on rpi) this year, and likely to be another sizeable cut next year based on this years Sept rpi (has always previously been based on Oct).

Many others in similar schemes will also have a cap on how much the pension can increase each year.

It is no good keeping the UK from recession if it means as a result that pensions and wages falling further and further below inflation.

Of course the best outcome would be, inflation getting under control without recession

The last time core inflation was at the current level, the UK base rate was at about 10%.

even if the market cap remained the same, with reducing number of shares, the price per share would go up.

The market determines the value of Lloyds, which means that the price per share can be anything that the market settles with.

I am afraid that HU is very desperate.

I gave a simple and correct answer to a question from 'petrosaga' to which HU just had to escalate all because he could not comprehend the question and answer.

His desperation may rear it's head again, especially if Lloyds keeps going down in price per share . He cannot handle stress.

Yet again - the purpose of buybacks is to reduce share capital.

yet again - about 99% of shareholder votes were in favour of buybacks.

btw - the dividend was enhanced by 20% in 2022 financial year, and will most likely be enhanced again in 2023, giving a forward yield of 6% or more depending on the level of enhancement.
