The plus account has a frequent dealer reduced transaction charge of £7.95p after a certain number of trades within a 3 month period are made.

You get wait you pay for.

I am an ex HSBC employee who started taking a pension from them at the age of 50.

I also have a large amount invested in HSBC shares.

For me it is a question of loyalty, paying charges to a business that I have a stake in, and safety.

For me dealing charges are an insignificant amount as a portion of a trade amounts so saving a few pounds having my stocks held with an outfit not as secure as HSBC simply would not be worthwhile.

Share price was reached earlier today - need getting on for another 20p to get to all time high market cap levels

In the world of DT/ the law - things are black and white - SB's being gambling and actual shares not gambling. and treated as such re taxation.

I don't class any money put into Lloyds shares as a gamble - I have bought and sold many many times at various price levels.

I don't keep any records of individual SB's, but as has been posted on here, just the Lloyds ones over the last several years must be at least 300. I posted the opens and closes at the time of execution - never closed at a loss.

I only took the gains as they happened to recalculate what I would need to get back from Lloyds positions in order to have them for free. That figure now being 13.39p per share. Early days starting in year 2000 I used SB's on a lot more stocks. I stopped the SB's on Lloyds when getting to levels that I was not as confident of getting a short term gain from, plus many of the last ones were only for £200 or £300 a point because of the elevated pricing levels.

I do not care whether anyone has a black and white view that an SB is gambling and share buying is investing.

You CAN trade US stocks with an Invest Direct Plus account and also years ago when I worked at HSBC I got my my SAYE shares transferred to my Invest Direct plus account
