so factoring in the 2022 and 2023 buybacks the current price is even more than 20p per share off of the Jan 2022 price, but no need for that, as most investors like to keep it simple, like keeping a record of their capital cost in comparison to a share price at any given time and a separate record of income received (myself included) .

If these amounts are correct then with a current market cap of about £20 Billion, the relative increase in share price that these buybacks have made are substantial.

I am afraid that adding years of dividend payments onto a share price to get a notional share price does not wash with investors.

We have also had a share consolidation in 2021.

We have also had many millions of shares bought back and cancelled which has increased the relative price per share.

The Tesco share price is NOT at a 10 year high.

The share price is currently 20p lower than that of Jan 2022.

I fully get it. If someone has been a shareholder long enough to have got 20 years worth of dividends, they would have received getting on for £2 per share.

NOTHING to do with share price highs over the last 20+ years.

The share price is still about 20p off of the Jan 2022 price.

Once business has adjusted to higher rates once more, those sme's that rely in part from bank borrowings to grow their businesses should provide underpinning to the forward profitability of Lloyds bank.

Tesco share price is currently about 20p lower than in Jan 2022.

Good chance of a return to that higher level again shortly if there is an end of year/start of year rally in the market

I think you will find that is has been explained already - more than once.

An investors individual total return from dividends and buybacks will be dependant on the price at which they bought shares at.

At the current price level forward dividends plus a £2 Billion buyback equates to about a 14% total return.

I have never suggested any such thing - it is for others to decide that for themselves.

What i have said is that buybacks are good investment for the longer term (simple maths).

I have also said that what I consider a low valuation of the Lloyds business, that I have made a number of purchase since the start of 2020 at low levels of the 30's and 20's and would consider more such purchases following my last at under 40p about a month ago.

My posted actions of purchasing Lloyds shares is not the same as telling others that it is a good investment.
