Well, well, well. If only someone could have predicted this. If only someone could have seen it coming. Another cracking investment from Challenger's CEO. Another roaring success to add to the list. Over to him now; I look forward to prompt confirmation that our £100k is back in the bank...

The success (or otherwise) of Star Sanctum is theoretically irrelevant, assuming that our �100k is guaranteed. If the event goes well, then great. If the event tanks and someone writes us a cheque for �100k then great. If the event tanks and we have to go to court or try to repo someone's stuff, then we've got a big problem.

The conference call date was announced by RNS, yes. I agree with marineville that the company could actually really, really do with that �100k back. If what the CEO says about cash burn is true then that money could be a game changer, in that it could allow him to keep the lights on while the interminable NY Wheel wrangling reaches a conclusion. The rest of my portfolio is pleasingly boring at the moment, except for one or two U.S. stocks (WWE in particular), which are flying.

I think you're right about consolidation being the most logical route. However, it's not a market which is well set up for such a thing - there are already just 5 businesses with around 80% of the UK market share between them. BMI obviously won't be in the running to buy Spire and I can't see Nuffield or Ramsay getting the deal away without triggering a competition investigation. That leaves HCA and any number of overseas operators. Really tricky situation, any way you look at it.

Agreed Redhammy. However the �100k payday loan to Starsanctum takes on added significance when one considers that it would basically keep the lights on here for anything up to 10 months. Challenger would have double the amount of cash in the bank if the CEO hadn't made this latest duff investment. Frankly I'd rather the CEO didn't pump any more CLN money in to the mysterious EOT project, because I wouldn't trust him not to blow the lot. The focus now should be on battening down the hatches until the NY Wheel turns (assuming it ever does). Stop wasting money on more GOW projects, stop wasting money on plane tickets to New York, just sit there and be quiet until this whole shambles finally resolves itself. At least wait until we have a revenue stream to prop the company up.

Wishy-washy is an excellent description. All in all a pretty massive waste of time. He actually said 'I don't even want to get in to what happens if Star Sanctum fails', which is an utterly risible position for the main investor in a new venture to take, when shareholders have major concerns. Presumably he won't adopt the same lassez faire approach to retrieving the �100k he's wasted if it goes down the pan. Still no news on the NY Wheel of course. Now 8 months since AB was said to be in 'advanced negotiations'. What a dog.

Yesterday he was saying that CHAL was a dog and that the board should be investigated by the FCA - today he's predictably deleted those tweets and is now back to throwing insults. Unhinged. Anyway - all eyes (and ears) on the conference call. Let's see if we get any more than the usual PR puff. I see that Star Sanctum has removed its 'how many seats have been sold' ticket map from the website. One month away from the event, that does not bode well...

Indeed. Potentially bad news for SPI holders hoping for another takeover bid. If they're that keen on a UK presence, the likes of Mediclinic may think that they can get a firesale price for GHG (t/a BMI Healthcare), instead of having to pursue Spire again.

Wow, what an extraordinary few weeks it has been. I nearly bought in here a few times over the years and kicked myself every time I saw the price was flying ever-higher. From that to completely bust in a few weeks is just frightening. What a mess. Genuine commiserations to all holders here.
