Translation: Starneth failed to sign a single GOW deal during the two year period since the separation from Challenger. If only someone could have predicted that this would be the outcome.

In exchange for this roaring success, Challenger has now given Starneth one of its equity units in the New York Wheel project. Fortunately these are now completely worthless, as the project is dead and the share price therefore hasn't tanked again.

Three more payments to come from Dallas and one more from Star Sanctum. After that, there is no more money and there are no revenue streams. The CEO had better get a move on...

The website, which I haven't looked at for some time, is a tremendous piece of work. The final bullet point on the NY Wheel page says "see RNS dated 24th October 2018 for furthr [sic] information". That would be the RNS which admitted that “there appear to be no viable options for financing the balance of the work required to complete the Project”. Brilliant.

This little trip down memory lane did bring this excellent long-read article to my attention however. Published last week, it gives a lot more detail on the failure of the NY Wheel project and also brings in to sharp focus just how irrelevant Challenger's $3m stake was, in the grander scheme of things...

You'd have thought that a new NED might want to demonstrate their faith in the company with a nice, chunky Director Buy. There is certainly no shortage of shares to be picked up.

Most credible listed companies have a Chairman. The Chair, along with the NEDs, hold the CEO and the Board to account. Challenger hasn't had this kind of a setup for a long time. The CEO has been marking his own homework for far too long.

Of course, the company doesn't currently have the funds required to search for and employ a Chairman. Hence its minute market cap.

This share has been VERY prone to P&D tactics in the past, which would make it risky for potential shorters, I agree.

However, newsflow here has been almost universally negative for at least the last two years, which may have made its fortunes easier to predict than the majority of companies.

Exactly. Worth a trade or two if you think you can time it. From a longer-term perspective, the business is still rapidly running out of runway.

Remember that the CEO caused this to bag just before Christmas (it's since largely fallen back again) by buying a few grand's worth of shares. If the new NED wants to pop the share price, he won't need to buy much and the ramp crew will do the rest.
