RE: Market wakening11 Apr 2018 14:48
I don't think it's a replacement BenFOGL, but to be used in conjunction with to boost power output but without an intermediary LDO component? At least that's my interpretation, but I'm no electrical engineer so happy to be corrected. Either way, it's a great news!
From the RNS:
"CAP-XX will initially target markets that use 3V coin cell batteries, where popular batteries such as the CR2032 can deliver reasonable energy (~220mAh) but have trouble delivering the peak power (~100mA) needed for data collection and transmission. CAP-XX's technology can handle those power bursts, and its new 3V supercapacitors will be designed to be placed directly across the battery without the intermediary LDO. It is anticipated that this will give a typical cost saving of 20-25% for a single cell and will also increase energy storage by 42% and power density by 23% over a current generation 2.7 volt device."
