The Covid-induced increase in air freight demand has raised the aviation industry’s outlook, according to research from global law firm Reed Smith.

Over the last 20 months, the pandemic and the consequent travel restrictions reduced demand for passenger flights but increased it for air cargo, especially as a result of supply chain issues and peaks in shopping demand.

British Airways (BA) has reportedly scrapped three flight routes, axing hundreds of flights until the summer.

Routes from London Heathrow to US destinations such as Nashville, New Orleans and Baltimore were cancelled as a result of a Covid-induced slump in bookings, the Sun first reported.

Flights to New Orleans will end on 15 January while the last services to Nashville and Baltimore will run on 16 and 17 January respectively, according to aviation website Simple Flying. All three routes are expected to be back from April.

UK households saw their financial wellbeing deteriorate at the fastest rate since the second quarter of 2020 during Q4, according to the latest Scottish Widows Household Finance Index, as surging living costs hit people’s pockets and led to the steepest fall in cash availability since the start of 2014.
The Index, which measures households’ overall perceptions of financial wellbeing, fell from 44.0 in Q3 to 40.1 in the final quarter of 2021, as household savings were squeezed to the greatest extent since Q4 2013. The latest survey also revealed a slight reduction in income from employment.

Millions of Brits who use online banking services are exposed to some worrying fraud risks, industry experts warned today.

Following an investigation by security experts 6point6, testing the online and mobile app security of 15 major current account providers on a range of criteria, including encryption and protection, login, and account management and navigation, consumer group Which! warned today.
