Those popping in to see what all the fuss is about, well it's just this -

Yesterday, Device Authority, a company in which Tern has a 56% stake, did a webinar with Microsoft during which it emerged that the Microsoft Azure platform can only scale up to the requirements of the IoT by utilising DA's unique and patent protected KeyScaler product.

Oh, and the two companies are working on further exciting (their words) future products.

Thales, Intel, nCipher and Sectigo have already shown they rely on KeyScaler but hey, this is Microsoft.

Before yesterday's webinar some of us suggested that it could spark a rapid and massive re-rate.

Today's a start :).

Microsoft man saying they're working on many things and Keyscaler allows them to do it at scale.

Watch this space as Microsoft man said he can't spill the beans just yet but new products and solutions are incoming soon and when asked what else their solutions and products can be applied to he said the list is vast!

Look forwards to those reporting later who had a better listen but I also believe the Microsoft man say he is "very excited"

Explaining a big fall from grace for Nostrum Oil & Gas

Once a constituent of the FTSE 250 index, Kazakh energy play Nostrum Oil & Gas (NOG) is now worth just a fraction of what it was just 12 months ago as it falls a further 47.6% today to 5.5p.

The latest bad news comes from Well 41 where despite extensive testing the company has been unable to sustain a commercial flow of hydrocarbons.

To quote Cantor Fitzgerald, this is ‘a very disappointing result. Hopefully Nostrum can salvage something from the well but shares will take a hit this morning.’

SUBSTANTIAL BORROWINGS

A lot of hopes were pinned on this exploration effort in the northern part of its Chinarevskoye field after the company experienced operational issues in the core producing area of the field in 2017 and 2018. Those hopes now look pretty forlorn given today’s news and an earlier disappointment on Well 42 which also failed to flow at commercial rates.

The company’s net debt totalled just over $1bn as at 30 June 2019 – dwarfing its current market cap of £11.9m and highlighting the seriousness of its situation. The company is set to commence refinancing negotiations on two outstanding bonds in 2020 and this could be very challenging in the current circumstances.

On 24 June Goldman Sachs was engaged to conduct a strategic review of the business and how any value could be salvaged and arguably the results can’t come soon enough.

(Bloomberg) -- Zimbabwe is targeting a fourfold increase in revenue from minerals by 2023 but an ambitious plan unveiled by Mines Minister Winston Chitando on Monday gave little detail on how the government would achieve this.

The policy document, known as the Strategic Road to the Achievement of US$12 Billion By 2023, sees gold exports at $4 billion and platinum at $3 billion as the government focuses on “value addition, enhanced investment within the sector, increased productivity and employment creation and increased exports and foreign-currency generation.”

However, the document makes no mention of an eagerly awaited overhaul of the country’s mining legislation that would be crucial in attracting foreign investment to the industry. It states that “in several cases the companies undertaking the various projects have been indicated. Where negotiations are yet to be concluded and or where the companies in question are quoted on stock exchanges and relevant announcements are yet to be made, reference will only be made to an investor.”

Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) on Sunday began its search for a new chief executive to replace Dr Morris Mpofu who was fired five months ago amid allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

The axe fell on Dr Mpofu and six other top managers at the diamond mining firm, with its board arguing the move was aimed at cleansing the organisation and rebuilding public confidence.

Roberto de Pretto was appointed acting chief executive until a permanent replacement was found.

Established in 2015, ZCDC is a major player in diamond mining and currently has operations in the Chiadzwa area and in Chimanimani in Manicaland and, is conducting extensive exploration and evaluation across Zimbabwe.

Recruitment agency, Industrial Psychology Consultants said the overall purpose of the job was “to provide leadership and direction in the growth of the business. Deliver value to the shareholder and other stakeholders in a sustainable manner.”

Government mid this year announced intentions to dilute its 100 percent shareholding in the firm through an equity partnership with Russian diamond miner, Alrosa.

Diamonds are expected to play a big role in Zimbabwe’s ambitious target to up mining sector contribution to the country’s gross domestic product to US$12 billion by 2023.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday launches the strategic roadmap for the industry in its quest to triple its earnings at a joint ceremony where the ZCDC, in partnership with the Marange community and London Stock Exchange listed Vast Resources will establish a joint venture diamond mining company.

More than 10 years after mining of the gems started in Manicaland province, citizens still question the benefits that the country has earned from the operations.

The ZCDC said last week it was aiming to ramp up output to 10 million carats per annum in the next two years as it seeks to enhance benefits accruing to the nation through the exploitation of diamonds.

The firm produced 1.8 million carats in 2017 and 2.8 million carats in 2018.

This comes as Zimbabwe is poised to reap huge dividends from exporting electric vehicle (EV) batteries lithium, whose demand is expected to soar as demand for battery-powered cars continues to grow.

Demand will be driven by rapid expansion in the lithium-ion battery industry, as world demand for hybrid and electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and high-drain portable electronics continues to grow.

Lithium mines in Zimbabwe

Despite having only a single mine, Zimbabwe is the world’s fifth largest lithium producer and Government has designated the mineral as one of the minerals expected to drive economic growth in short to medium term.

Other lithium projects in the country include Bikita Minerals (already in production), Jimbata’s Kamativi lithium project and the Zulu Lithium project near Gwanda, which are now at different stages of development.

Zulu lithium project
Situated 80km from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, Premier believes the project is potentially the largest undeveloped lithium-bearing pegmatite in Zimbabwe.

Zulu comprises 14 mineral claims covering a surface area of 3.5 km2 which are prospective for lithium and tantalum mineralisation.

In June 2017, Premier announced a Maiden Mineral Inferred Resource Estimate on Zulu of 20.1 million tonnes grading 1.06% Li2O.

A scoping study in 2017 indicated a value of US$127mln for a 15-year open cast operation mining a concentrate of spodumene and petalite.

Reports in October that EPO had been awarded still to be confirmed.

Govt to pursue local lithium beneficiation

Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando said Zimbabwe ought to maximise benefits from its mineral resources.

“As Zimbabwe we are one of the few countries which are blessed with lithium resources and the more we can have in terms of lithium value addition can be good for the country,” he said.

Last year, the Government indicated that Zimbabwe was aiming to produce at least 10 percent of global lithium output within the next four years, following the discovery of new deposits of the mineral in different parts of the country over the past year.

The discovery of the new deposits in areas including Matabeleland North and Mashonaland Central provinces has spawned a scramble for lithium exploration and extraction by foreign investors. Some of the projects that are being pursued include the Zulu Mine located about 80 kilometres outside Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city, which is being spearheaded by Premier African Minerals.

As per the policy, only four foreign diamond mining companies are being allowed to mine in the country, namely Murowa Diamonds; AIM-listed Vast Resources; Russian diamond giant Alrosa and Chinese-owned Anjin.

In terms of creating development policies for other minerals, Chitando has called on chrome and lithium industry players to make policy recommendation that they believe may help stimulate their particular sectors.

Zimbabwe: ED to Headline U.S.$ 12 Billion Mineral Promise

President Emmerson Mnangagwa will next week Monday lay bare the four year mining sector strategy that is billed to yield the country US$ 12 billion in mineral receipts annually by year 2023.

Mnangagwa currently away in France, will give an account of how his administration intends to achieve the ambitious target in the coming four years.
