@Baz, I’ve seen this before with limited details released. During Scottish implementation, I encountered similar language.

“ The Genedrive CYP2C19 ID Kit, whilst positioned for near-patient testing, is equally amenable to use in laboratory settings.

My interpretation is , The existing CYP2C19 ID Kit and Genedrive System are being formally marketed into lab settings , same hardware, same cartridge, different commercial pitch. They’re essentially saying “our POC device can sit in a lab too, and here’s a lab-validated workflow.” No new product needed, low R&D cost, quick to market. This is a commercial strategy pivot, not a product pivot.

The Genomadix Cube detects *2, *3, and *17 alleles, while Genedrive detects *2, *3, *4, *8, *17, and *35.  That’s three alleles vs six. In practice this means Genedrive catches rare loss-of-function variants that Cube misses entirely.

The US population is far more diverse (South Asian, East Asian, Black, Hispanic patients have higher prevalence of rarer LOF alleles like *3 and *8), US hospitals and payers are increasingly scrutinising whether a 3-allele test is clinically adequate,

A notable mention for Genedrive in the 2026 Neonatal Infection Prevention & Treatment Guideline.

The guideline explicitly references the Genedrive MT-RNR1 ID Kit as a technology that can be used in the NHS to guide aminoglycoside use and help prevent hearing loss in babies.

Importantly, gentamicin remains embedded throughout neonatal infection treatment pathways, reinforcing the need for rapid point-of-care genetic testing.

Not a national rollout announcement, but another sign that Genedrive is becoming part of the clinical conversation around neonatal antibiotic safety.

The Test works and improves patient lives. So why aren’t we recommending it? The science is there but clearly there’s no will to implement it. Pilot after pilot hasn’t made any difference.

Excellent News , incoming Chair would be A recognised name from the diagnostics, MedTech, or NHS commercialisation world would be ice on the cake , it’s gonna be very good next 2 years for Genedrive , something to cheer for LTH.

@Baz, some of the social media content they released shows the manufacturer in the video. However, Gemomadix is no longer a Genedrive competitor. GDR will be the clear winner in the NiCE mandate.

@Baz , @Baz, I’ve done some research and this site is one of their earliest. It offered free devices and tests for the pilot. Genomadix test failure rates range from 0.4% to 19%, which is much higher than Genedrive’s 0.6% across both manufacturer-led trials and NHS pilots. Consequently, NICE recommended GDR POC. It also detects more alleles than cube .

Must be NUH an old procurement site before the NICE recommendation.

The test NUH (Nottingham) is using is Genomadix CUBE. I’m curious why they chose Genomadix over Genedrive, it seems like a strange decision, that’s why we have not seen any RNS or press release from Genedrive .

Patient Rasheed Ashrafali, from Nottingham and who also happens to be a consultant at Queen’s Medical Centre, first experienced a mini-stroke in 2024. He immediately recognised what was happening and attended A&E.

He said: “I was getting ready for work and was standing in front of the mirror, but I couldn’t see my face in the mirror.

“So I went to speak to my wife, and I couldn’t see her face at all. I could see the roof, I could see the floor and the sides, but couldn’t see her face.

“I had been fine a few minutes before, and I had lost vision in one eye and it had happened suddenly, so I thought it might be a stroke.”

Dr Ashrafali was seen by the stroke team and had multiple scans, and was prescribed Clopidogrel to prevent him from having more strokes. However, in 2025 he suffered another mini-stroke and the stroke team then suspected that he was not responding to the medication.

At the time, an early trial of the swab test was underway, so he was one of the first people to have it at NUH. The results confirmed that Dr Ashrafali had the genetic variation, meaning the Clopidogrel would not work for him.

He said: “They changed my medication straight away so it is personalised to me, and I know it will definitely work.

“It means the chances of me having another stroke or mini-stroke are minimised, which is comforting and gives me confidence to look forward to the future.

“This will make a massive difference to patients.”

Amanda Davies, Service General Manager for Stroke at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

“This is a hugely exciting time for Stroke Services here at NUH thanks to this new clinic space and innovations in treatment which could transform the lives of our patients.
