It is what airlines do! They don’t like barriers to their trade and shouting about it is good PR. Ryanair ask for reductions in aviation taxes every other week.

Except they haven’t “refused to implement it”. They have absorbed the cost for a temporary period rather than pass it on to consumers. They are paying it.

Equally no government decree or official communication indicates that the increase HAS been delayed or suspended. I have seen no source to suggest it has but happy to be contradicted. Again, that article points to the tax having been implemented across the board.

Respectfully 3P, this is seemingly incorrect.

First, this is one carrier and it only applies to tickets purchased directly through their sales channel. In other words it does not apply to tickets bought through other sources (e.g. agencies)

Secondly, and more importantly, that does not mean that the tax is not payable. Rather than Fly Gabon is absorbing the cost itself. As said in other articles:

“The airline's commitment to absorbing the initial financial impact of the tax increase demonstrates its dedication to customer satisfaction and its long-term vision for the Gabonese aviation market.”

And

“While this decision is expected to impact the company's bottom line, Afrijet emphasizes its commitment to mitigating the immediate effects on travelers”

This is a PR exercise on Fly Gabon’s behalf to encourage passengers to book through their direct sales channel ( presumably this is to Fly Gabon’s benefit because it reduces commission fees - hence allowing them to absorb some of the tax cost)

If anything, the articles simply demonstrates that the tax is being paid.

…a lovely day. And some nice buying into close. I’m cautiously optimistic that this business is starting to turn a corner. These contracts look like great PR and hopefully will start to generate more business. There is so much history weighing this down but fingers crossed that with each new piece of business the SP begins it long journey north.
