I should add.. when i called IG to complain. was told "you should only ask for a quote no less than every 20 minutes". never heard such boll*cks in all my life!. They then sent me an email:
We regret the situation that occurred today, and as a result, we feel it’s necessary to provide you with more information regarding proper RSP quote request etiquette to help prevent similar issues in the future.
🧭 Proper RSP Quote Request Etiquette
Only request quotes when there's a genuine intention to trade
RFQs should not be used for speculative or repetitive price checks without the intent to execute.
Avoid sending multiple requests for the same instrument in quick succession
This can be seen as system abuse and may result in restrictions or bans.
Be clear and accurate with request details
Include the correct instrument, quantity, trade direction (buy/sell), and any relevant conditions.
Respect response times
Don’t resend the request if it’s still within a reasonable waiting period.
Don’t use RFQs for mass price comparisons
Use analytical tools for that purpose. RFQs are meant for direct execution.
Understand that providers may choose not to respond
Liquidity providers are not obligated to quote, especially if they detect unprofessional behavior.
Avoid pressure or threats of complaints
Threatening to file a complaint over access or quotes can damage relationships with support or providers.
