Sepura, with activities in the UK and Germany at least, was taken over by a Chinese company.

We knew that yesterday already.

It was presumably not a small cap until it started dropping properly earlier this quarter... so it does not behave completely like a small cap yet.

This matters because a share that's fully in the small cap area (i.e not one that was recently relegated) is under the control of market makers, who are indirectly responsible for the brutal drops of SPs within minutes of market opening after a good news RNS is released that same morning before the market has opened.

Fortunately, MMs don't control this share (yet?).

This is not AIM or a small cap, so the SP is more likely to rise for a little while (at least 1-2 hours ) after a 7am positive RNS.

Unlike small caps or AIM which tend to go down like a lead balloon straight on open.

L2 is worth it for main market (medium and large caps only). For main market small caps and for AIM, it is useless. Look up my posting history for a detailed explanation as to why.

To close a short, you BUY the shares.

However, that big sell didn't stop the rise of the SP back to above 15p, so I wouldn't worry.

And it seems that the algos are all over this share with a lot of automated trades logged...

Thanks mate. I'm aiming for a fair bit higher for now as I do think that the airline bit will be sold off, or at least a firm offer will be made.

That's quite a leap up now.

I honestly don't - partly because disentangling it from the rest of the business ain't straightforward.

Shorters are a necessary evil: they help shares be more liquid.

However, there are good chances that short are being closed now that a potential asset purchase has been announced. A takeover, full or partial, is a shorter's absolute horror story and I'd be shocked if any of them would take the risk to stick around now, especially since the SP dropped several time over the past few months, so shorters will have already had their opportunities to make money.

So I suspect they are now gradually moving on (by buying back shares).
And remember that short positions under 0.5% are not reported.

Agreed, it was almost certainly a buy due to the ask / bid at the time the trade was logged., and by comparing the SP of the previous and subsequent transactions.
