Fc1865 - good spot, nice to see you posting. How's France at the moment? My wife is champing at the bit to get down to the Dordogne but still no travel prospects sadly.

There was a lot of discussion on here last week about the Byrnecut rate of drilling (adv 154m/month) and the 69m in the GGP RNS.

I have just had a reply from Greatland as follows which is self-explanatory:

Thank you for your email.

The Byrnecut figure looks to be an average run rate per month for the entire length of the decline when working at full speed.

As noted in our company announcement on 22nd July, the actual advancement was 69m with the contractor only recently having moved to 24-hour operations. Furthermore, rock conditions change and usually evolve at depth and allow quicker advancement rates with the passage of time.

if GH would it not have been better to do an off-market trade for the whole lot (or split as appropriate between buyers) - provided both seller and buyer were happy with the strike price? Anyway, it is what it is and market forces ultimately will determine GGP's true value. Perhaps as early as September, we shall see

Monty - I totally understand charting and investing. I am also comfortable with numbers and have a maths degree. I invited you to draw a line through the peak SP of 5 Feb and 24 December. A line of best fit takes you beyond 66p. Just as valid as your attempt. We may be both right but I certainly would not come on a BB and start predicting it could fall as low as 15p. What reaction do you expect?

...and that's the trouble with chartists - always trying to predict the future using lines of "best fit" on a graph from past data.

It just doesn't work. Zak Mir has shown that over and over again. Why not trying drawing a line of best fit through the SP of 5.3p on the graph 12 Feb 2020 up to the peak on 24 December 2020 of 37p and see where that takes you - shooting past 66p is the answer.

And we know the PFS can land at any time....

Since the 65k metre drilling program was announced 28 January, c. 45k has been drilled according to the 6-weekly RNS's.

Drill results to date:

RNS 28 Jan 138,504m drilled for 153 holes
RNS 11 Mar 154,953m drilled for 179 holes (16,449m for 26 holes since 28 Jan)
RNS 29 Apr 158,663m drilled for 183 holes (3,710m for 4 holes since 11 March)
RNS 10 Jun 164,420m drilled for 190 holes (5,757m for 7 holes since 29 April)
RNS 22 Jul 184,081m drilled for 212 holes (19,661m for 22 holes since 10 June)

Total drilled 28 Jan to 22 Jul: 45,577m for 59 holes.

Note that some assays are still in the labs, hence the reason only 7 new holes were announced in today's RNS rather than 22. The next set of results should therefore be a bumper crop if the labs can catch up.

On interview SD has the widest of smiles: "when you keep punching more holes into this ore body and it just keeps finding more mineralisation it's hard to take the smile off your face"

Dillon - assays have to be independently assessed. Assaying of drill core samples was conducted at Intertek. Whether they pay extra for speedy delivery I don't know but they don't seem to suffer the same delays as GGP

Newcrest don't traditionally suffer the assay delays that GGP have (different arrangements?) - any delays at the NCM end were mainly due to weather

Not too bad today given the wider market blues

I found it informative to look back at Newcrest's annual report for the year ended 30 June 2015. This was Sandeep's first full year as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer and his actions have proved pivotal in turning around Newcrest's performance.

After completing a future options review at Telfer under the leadership of SB, Newcrest made the decision in the year to retain the Telfer asset. Improved performance, undertaking the "Edge" program (Newcrest’s business improvement program), lower operating costs, an optimised mine plan and a lower Australian dollar all positively contributed to this decision.

And the rest is history. Who knows - had that review not gone well, and they had decided to close Telfer, I doubt if GGP would be in the strong position it now finds itself.
