Thanks Accountant, good read. The article pretty much sums up my rationale into buying here last month. Not forgetting that it was Tesco that initiated the return of the business rate relief cash to the Government. Not so sure about TSCO being seen as a T/O opportunity but the online delivery infrastructure must look attractive to the likes of Amazon.
I also agree with the comments in relation to Aldi and Lidl, they have lost some market share due to the size of the stores, lots of shoppers finding social distancing difficult in much smaller stores.
Fingers crossed that TSCO can hold on to some of these when a degree of normality returns.

Not sure of a share buyback either. The dividend payment date has been announced subject to approval at the GM on 11th Feb. I think the terms 'on or around' is probably due to the uncertainties caused by the virus. so we can expect the payment date to be 26th Feb.

Running costs of the pension fund should be lower to. Still a lot of uncertainty out there. I will also be keen to see how Aldi and Lidl after Brexit if there is a no deal. Although they source quite a bit of fresh produce from the UK, much of their products are produced outside.

Managed to get all my money out of SVS and worked out very well for me as the takeover occurred when the shares were in Admin.
Could have been an expensive lesson but now fully aware of online dealing and the risk with nominee accounts.
Just got the tip of my toes in now with much less stress.

Just my opinion and probably wise to ignore but I believe the sp is being held back to enable funds to buy on the cheap before February 11th or certainly drip money in and accumulate. Investors here may have mixed opinions about the dividend, Brexit or market share of the sector but most if not all agree that Covid has been good for supermarkets.
If you look at the 12 month chart, TSCO was circa £2.50 at the start of the pandemic and now struggles to maintain £2.30.
A few weeks ago, supermarkets were reporting strong sales with TSCO being the second best performer with over 10%. The sp from memory dropped a little with it's rivals rising.
I too, like many will be looking forward to the January trading update and then make a decision whether to sell prior to the special dividend or possibly add. Probably an amount equal to the special dividend and preserving my cash.

Can you provide evidence of this being shorted? I cannot find anything. Trouble is many gamblers not investors pumped this even when a director had the common sense to sell. A pitiful excuse for 'being worked over' by your comments. gamblers here have been fed a line or two and greed didn't allow them to come to a rational decision.
Only people that have made money here were the day traders. brokers and the BoD's. You seriously think a shorter would look at a company of this size and see an opportunity to make money? A poor excuse for a poor decision. Plain and simple.

RNS states subject to approval at the GM on or around the 11th Feb. This will be when it goes Ex Dividend.

News tab reporting broker upgrade for Tesco. Positive analysis from Morgan Stanley. Cost cuts going forward for Bookers too.
Lots of positives despite the sp stuck in the doldrums.

I see Brexit is causing concern for retailers and food manufacturers due to delays at the ports. If retailers have been stockpiling then I can see shoppers doing the same as the realisation of potential shortages sinks in. Not sure what the impact on the big supermarkets will be but can see supplies of long shelf like goods, particularly from Europe being in high demand.
Price rises inevitable regardless of any deal. Lets hope TSCO forward planning is a s good as their ability to adapt to the pandemic was.

My understanding is that the proceeds have already been spent on the Pension fund and special dividend.

Fwiw, I think fund managers are holding this back as they slowly drop money in. They know the timeframe so can take thie so in any direction to suit their agenda.
The recent trend certainly supports that.
I have calculated the money due to me in February and will use that capital before payout to buy more shares. Just a matter of timing. Although it has not been reported, after any share consolidation I can see the yearly dividend to be adjusted accordingly.
The running cost of the Pension fund should be reduced significantly too.
May have my rose coloured glasses on but lots of positives here despite the unraveling from the EU.

Approval is expected at the general meeting on or around 11th February and if agreed dividend is to be payed on or around the 26th of the same month.
Perhaps have a read of the second RNS headed condition of sale.

avocet, take off your blinkers and look to the future. The war cemetery near my house house the graves of Commonwealth soldiers that put their lives on the line for freedom and democracy. The very process that put us into the EU and out of the EU. We have so much gifted people in the UK that can produce and create products that will be in demand throughout the world, our population is probably the most diverse and inclusive in the world.

Don't bother responding as I am off to my local market to buy locally produced items from my fellow European farmers and friends. People like you create so much negativity rather than seeing an opportunity.

No the EU have brought it upon their selves! Morphed itself from the Common Market into a Federal State. We have unelected politicians imposing rules on the UK. Before you make the assumption that I am anti Europe, I live in France for most of the year and WILL always be European. Trust me, there are more French anti EU than Brits, very strong right wing views and closely watching how we unravel from the EU with envy.

If we have to source alternatives for EU goods then it is only a matter of time before we produce it ourselves or trade with another country. In most cases a divorce is painful but the majority of people say it was for the best given the passage of time. Get over it, the British people voted for it. Twice!

Should have been a little clearer in making the comparison with beef mince. If supermarkets only supplied British mince because tariffs made EU too expensive then animal welfare would be very much higher.
I have a background in livestock and know that standards here are certainly better than I have witnessed in Europe.
I’m not anti Europe by any stretch of the imagination as I live between France and the UK.
Same goes for supermarkets too, not as many best before dates on a lot of goods and customer service is at best average.
Again, slightly off topic I read that M&S see an opportunity with their clothing sales due to many high street retailers falling by the wayside. I’m sure the same applies to F&F
