It's interesting to see that, just like any other subject discussed on here, one is either right or wrong, and if you have an opposing view you're an idiot.
The actual truth is generally somewhere in between the extreme views.
However, what we do know is that all governments spread deceit, none can be trusted 100%, and many consist of individuals driven by self interest rather than the greater good.
What we also know, is that most posters do not want the situation to descend into full scale war, both from a humanitarian perspective and also from a perceived risk (by some) to our investments.
Lets see how this plays out and not get involved in who's right or wrong before anything tangible has actually happened :-)

Have you ignored the fact that the majority of Russian government incomes is raised through taxation of mineral exploitation, the Chinese are their biggest market and growing?
It's all but been confirmed that the interested parties are Russian, Chinese, and Japanese.
Are you suggesting that Norisk Nickel annual divis will no longer be paid to UK shareholders? :-)

All is fine. This whole Ukraine thing has been bubbling along for years and that hasn't hindered investment in Norisk and issuing of annual divis'. The budget of Russia is largely formed at the expense of taxes on the extraction of minerals. They want the deal to happen. The main demand is from China, and its growing. Stay chilled, and ignore the news ;-)

On balance, I feel there's far more chance of Eurasia releasing the "big one" over the next few days than there is of Russian making significant aggressive moves.

I guess the problem is, we all now see how western governments and media constantly lie to their people. Modern day democracy seems to extend to the right for an individual to shout their mouth off without punishment. We're still deceived, manipulated, and lied to. So it's very difficult to believe anything they say anymore. Not saying Russia is any different, it's just hard to differentiate, and I completely get why Russia would be aggrieved at possible NATO membership of Ukraine.

Personally I don't see too much risk. The hints from the RNS allayed my fears. The wests involvement with regards sanctions will have little affect upon the interested parties, b Russian, Chinese, and Japanese.

According to western media, these kinds of incidents are regularly happening and are not an indicator of forthcoming invasion. They are carried out by Russian supported rebels in the region. This particular situation has been going on for years, so I'm not sure how you can state it was a false flag attack.

As it appears that the "interested parties" are likely Russian, Japanese, and Chinese; I feel the warmongering from the west will have limited impact on our investments. That's essentially what I'm taking from the last RNS :-)

Nato now accusing Russia of planning a false flag attack.
First it was invasion Wednesday, then the day after the Winter Olympics, now it's a staged false flag attack.
Looks more like the West would encourage the Ukranians to do this, and ultimately justify an expedited Nato membership.

Liz Truss wants more evidence of Russian withdrawal.
Much like the evidence used to invade Iraq and the resulting needless sacrifice of UK lives, I guess !

For those that are new to investing, timelines often drift and once this is seen as the norm, the impatience may lessen.
