So yes, qualifying for a state pension by virtue of being unemployed for 10 plus years is very different to receiving universal credit as a top up while you are in gainful employment, or employment and support allowance if you have a disability and are at work, or even maternity and paternity pay (this is also classed as a benefit and is included in the figures).
So you are correct to say it is completely different and by your rationale you are making (by accident I guess) a very logical and strong factual case to make that many OAPS don't deserve handouts, and there are many people currently working who receive benefits who do deserve them.
