At least NGR knows what the materials do and the difference between display and sensor products. Different materials, different markets covered by some different patents. The materials developed with STM over a number of years are not some generic material that can be sourced elsewhere it has been developefor STM to produce a state of the art SWIR sensor that they can sell to many markets ..although Apple could be obviously very important STM are free to sell to whoever they like and have a very wide customer base. Whether the stm SWIR sensor is the best in a developing market where the cost advantage over other technology will be a USP is yet to be seen.

Not sure how an on market buyback works easier than a tender…both giving same result. An on market purchase could take an age if they execute at something like 1/3 of volume and limited by 5 day rolling price…it could also present an opportunity for a larger holder to offload on an inequitable basis. Tender could be quite quick and effective in meeting their distribution commitment .

Think the calculations on impact of a takeover at a massive premium and how that works on a reduced share capital might be a bit previous…we have had one very small order from an unknown party let’s see whether that leads somewhere more significant. I note that the new sensor from STMicro I posted elsewhere is expected to go into full production in March.

Maxi..for all those reasons one has to presume the directors themselves do not know yet how they are to execute the firm commitment to pay out £33-£40m to their shareholders …it would be very strange if they had not talked at length on the subject and have a very good idea what they will do…but if you see it as price sensitive then they should be restricted from dealing if there is anything other than a straight special dividend. Just wish they were better at communicating some key corporate events so all shareholders had a clever picture of where we are.

They would of course have to set out the terms properly and put to a shareholder vote as they only have vanilla permission to buy back 10% of the outstanding shares as yet…they would need to up that permission in a GM. All guesswork bt will be pleased when they confirm how they are to do it as it could be price sensitive..therefore surprised directors buying at the juncture when they have had many opportunities to do so since they settled. Maybe they haven't decided yet..but i find it difficult to believe it is not a key strategic decision for the board to agree for a while now and can’t believe they are not at a favoured route.

There would be no MAR issues ..one must presume they know the same as everyone else through official comms..i believe that is meant to be the case. All shareholders would be offered the same opportunity in a tender whether or not to participate on the same terms.

Folks could tender their whole holding …and if everyone does you sell 50% of your holding in the example at 25p i gave ..if some do not subscribe to the tender others would be able to sell more than 50% . Open and fair.

I think with a tender they could just ask shareholders if for example they wanted to sell half their holding at say 25p ..yeah or nay. Post the tender there would be half the shares in issue so holders would have an increased interest in the organic business and there would be 12p per share cash left. What would folk do?

Since very few have gains on their holdings…many have losses. Doing a tender share buyback would not incur any taxable event as it would be treated effectively as a partial sale..one could then decide whether you reinvest in the ex adjusted price or take the money out.

Just posted away … as it seems the directors have bought in their own right not in tax wrappers can you see them paying out a special dividend where they would lose almost half the benefit in income tax…i can’t.

This is the biggest pile of crap …the company specifically promoted a transformational outcome and paid for low end guidance significantly higher than they settled for without testing the extremely strong case they said they had in court..capitulating the day before.

As some say ..its history..I say don’t ignore it.
