If you were going to buy one of the food retailers, would Morrison not be the best choice.
Reason for my thinking is a potential bid from Amazon and the negative implications this would have on Tesco and Sainsbury shares.

I was just reading an article in the Investors Chronicle about the possibility of Amazon buying out Morrison to get a solid foothold in the grocery business, may well have been covered here before.
Any thoughts ???
Definitely getting in cheap and at the same time scare Tesco and Sainsburys witless.

I could be wrong, but it looks like a breakout to the upside on the chart. Reinforced if it closes above 12.25 today.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE of the personal tax implications with dividends. Capital gains is £12300, but tax on dividends starts to be paid after £2200. We have established that after all is done you will end up with less shares but will have been paid the difference by way of the special dividend. If you are then having to pay tax on that dividend you will be worse off.

But at the same time the number of shares you own will be reduced. You'll end up with a 51p dividend but an equivalent loss in share price through consolidation. It will actually be worse, the company will still have a massive debt on their books but a busines that is less valuable. This is probably the reason why the stock has dropped, they are pretty much asset stripping but keeping all the debts. I wouldn't want to be holding onto Tesco shares at the end of all this. My personal view is theyll be testing the 1.84p before to long.

No arguments around the figures being strong from the retail side, the loan provisions from Tesco bank could add a spanner in the works. Imagine how many tinned beans they would have to sell to cover a 10k personal loan going bad.

The very thing they are hoping SFX-01 will achieve with covid, already exists. According to Bloomberg it has been given to Trump.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, we still have a white elephant in the room in the form of Tesco bank.
Bad loan provision could severely outweigh any positive news .

Just a heads up, Investors chronicle has recommended Tesco as a buy ahead of the figures ( this weeks addition)

My personal thoughts are a sell off to around £2.06 / 2.04 range, next weeks figures will be very good which will result in a strong move back up. As its one of the few companies still paying a divi as well as it still making a decent profit I cant see it going below £2. If it does happen to do so on any negative news, fill your boots as it will soon be back up in the 2.30+ range.

The Ocado cheer leaders are trying to compare Ocado to Amazon to justify their stellar share price rise.
I always like to bring it back to the cost of replicating a business from scratch once you get to these silly prices.
As a rough calculations, each delivery van is valued at over 10 million pounds. A bubble if ever I've seen one.

We are at a pivotal point here, could go either way.

Its funny how technical analysis sometimes predicts share price changes before the fundamentals catch up.
Going with just that view, I'm expecting next week to determine the sp movement over the next few weeks.
I wouldn't be surprised if next week the OTTC don't announce their decision. Just for your guide, if it hits 2.14 that will form a triple bottom, the announcement will send it one way or the other. Place your bets

Rosewall, am I right in think that a share consolidation would be undertaken to reflect the sale of part of the business, for example, you hold 100 shares and the company sells 10% of the business, your holding is then reduced to 90 shares.

Might be worth a punt for a quick 10 to 15% bounce.

If its similar to the one my employer operates you can stop the scheme at any time and get your money back.
Admittedly the points raised around the special dividend impact on the share price are valid.
Its a no loose scheme, you could always invest this year, if the price is lower next year, cash this one in and take out a new one at a lower price. Just something else to consider, if you have any loans / credit cards on high rates it would probably be more prudent to pay those off.
