A French vaccine financed by Britain is at the centre of a row over the Macron government’s failure to ensure supplies for its people.
The French government refused to fully fund research by Valneva, a Franco-Austrian startup that has developed its vaccine at its headquarters near Nantes in the Loire region.
Instead, the British backed the development, securing an agreement to supply 60 million doses from a plant in Livingston, West Lothian, starting in October. France will get the vaccine only next year.

The third phase of testing of the drug interferon beta in the treatment of covida 19 began in the UK in January, according to pulmonologist and immunologist Ratko Djukanovic, who with two colleagues at the University of Southampton discovered that the interferon beta protein helps treat those infected with the corona virus, according to Tanjug.
The drug, he announced, will soon be applied in Serbia as part of clinical trials.
Djukanovic said the third phase of the study in the UK has so far included about 40 patients and will begin in the US next week, followed by several European countries, including Serbia.
- I am very glad that in the first wave there will be Serbia where the drug will be applied in five health centres , Djukanovic, an expert on asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease, told K1 TELEVISION.
