We are back on Iona for the Jan 26, 35 nights.

In Antigua this Jan on Iona, QM2 was tendering from a good kilometer out.

We were on the berth and the old dears on QM2 were not happy about the tendering. As we were leaving after 6pm they were still recovering tenders in quite choppy waters.

Of course we waved to those on the tenders G&Ts in hand as we sailed by😉

SP will crash if they read our comments Bhants. We don't spend on excursions either.

We do like the speciality restaurants like the Epicurean etc so spent a few bob on dining. K

I did my own thing for 12 years, fitting in a bit of biz around our cruises ( including a World and 2 x65 nights. K

Bot, Working for Finnish companies and living there, it was a booze fest at every opportunity.

I retired in 2001 and eased off. I still enjoy a beer, glass of red and a dram occasionally.

Nothing for the last 6 weeks though,nursing Her Ladyship after knee replacement ( bonus, I dropped 3 kg) 🤣

I'd be glad to get ashore without the drinks package for a few hours detox.

On our 35 nights Iona in Jan the drinks package is £2800 per cabin, £40 pppd.

These days, it would be wasted on us although Her Ladyship might disagree. K

I discussed this with a neighbour who is a big shot in corporate finance. She said there is not a lot of business around and what is, is very competitive. The US has a much larger appetite for unsecured deals compared to the UK and Carnival would have had many offers to take this on. K

Jock, I was on that cruise. P&O had drinks for Ligurian & Baltic one night and later for Caribbean. Like us, most on a 35 nighter were retired with lots of cruises sailed. There were very few lower tier passengers.

As to doing a World Cruise, good luck , ours was the best ever experience. K

Bhants, very true. On our last P&O, a Shipmate was bemoaning the fact he'd paid £48 and has since done 20+ cruises and not recovered his outlay. He jokingly told us he got 2 quarters dividends before the crash.

Still he was happy to cruise and had 2 booked.

We went with P&O a couple of times to Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. I understood then that it was owned by Carnival.

It had great facilities, zip wires etc but no beach . Entry was free if I recall but beers, restaurants etc were expensive. K
