Open Pit to Underground

Switching from open pit to underground mining is a common move in the industry, with several South American countries successfully pulling it off to extend mine life and boost profits.

Colin Bird sounds like he has an appetite for a similar approach at Luansobe. With both an approved open pit license and an approved underground license, he has mentioned ramp down from the open pit to the underground license previously.

In addition, if the potential 62 million tonnes of high-grade copper in the ‘deeps’ also pans out, this single license area could be worth way more than a **ten bagger**. The dual approved licenses pave the way for a smooth shift, unlocking massive resource potential and my guess is that this is his strategy and he wants to benefit from all three aspects. Being next door to the Mopani Mine helps :-)

Hi Chri5p, I agree CB will want to retain an interest in many of the assets for very good reason. By Kamativi lithium sale do you mean an outright sale? I think that is high probability. Shinganda, Ferber, the Luansobe deeps, Western Foreland, Kalahari - huge prospectivity. Monetisation of the open pits will clear the path for everything to re-rate. Nice position for a Junior to be in. He bought those assets when others were afraid to buy. He’s been around and knows the industry …

Agreed. The strategy is to Monetise to create the cash flow for the Tier 1s, therefore, bigger picture is that monetisation is close.
