I went to the Cinema ...3 Aug 2020 14:23
... about a week ago. Wasn't Cineworld, as, well, it was before the 31st of July. I've got an average price of 57p right now so I was curious about how it would be. It was one of those smaller fancy screens with two seater sofa type things. Genesis in East London.
Before the show started there was hardly anyone there and the place felt dead. It really spooked me out. I had a pint, and a hotdog and, well, cheesey Nachos because, you know ... cinema. But overall without the hustle and bustle of forecourt it was a really weird place to be. Not a happy bunny sitting on 57p.
But then the film started (Once upon a Time in Hollywood) ... and it was ace. And I ate my food, and I remembered that Cheesey Nachos are disgusting but so so so good (and I resolved as I always do to bring a spoon with me next time) ... and you know what, at the end when the lights came back on the place was packed. Every sit was full.
Admittedly it was a small screen, from memory it have 5 rows of 4*2 seats ... so 40 people in total. But a lot of places here in London have been investing in those smaller premium lounge type screens where people are already separated. I know Odeon have "The Lounge", I'm sure Cineworld have a similar concept. I know they do at the Picture Houses ...
Anyway, I guess the point of this post is that although it felt REALLY weird to start with, afterwards it was wicked cool. And I'm more keen to go back (Tenet FTW) ... I guess others will probably have the same sort of experience, so even if capacity and bookings are slow to start, they should gather momentum based on word of mouth etc...
