if oil worked on classic cash op cost basis then there is plenty of supply for current demand at POO of US$20/bbl or lower..dyor to verify ...oil has been kept much higher than classic analysis would suggest thru politics esp opec..and the cost analysis yr post was referencing arel political / macro ("social") costs not marginal cash op costs ...so the key to the discussion is what costs: bears point to v low extraction costs esp from Mid East deserts; bulls point to large social costs ..and then there is the huge uncertainty over future demand...which I believe has v nearly peaked (hooray for the planet)

yes...defensives overvalued imv...but that is true of bonds (which provide a benchmark of sorts for defensives) ....we may get a bounce from here through to 22-24, but wouldn't you sell then? ....without iron ore stabilising, production reducing i cannot see trend reversal here..and if iron ore stabilises before meaningful production reduction why would plants be mothballed?..looking for much more despair in the mining sector to establish sustainable platform for recovery

your approach is the bull pov...the answer from this bear is that plenty of oil soaked countries are in for a hammering...the oil will still be profitable to pump (so the glut will increase), but the surplus generated will be smashed and bloated public sectors punctured...but wouldn't it be better if folk in oil soaked countries actually produced something useful...worked like the rest of us lol??
