I did this with my wife two children and farther in law (loire valley) you go far from the madding crowd there are villages that only tractors drive through and tiny restaurants in houses with chicken walking the street the still and quietness is staggering this is where we discovered Chinon ,Cabernet Franc ,lovely red (we now sell as our own house red ) a tiny restaurant had to go to the house on the other side of the street to get it. the children cycled the towpaths it was fantastic will do again one day the only down side it would have been cheeper for us all to have sailed around the Caribbean for a month despite what the press and politician say its a lovely place and the people are very nice its just like England but not so crowded would recommend very much as stress relief
