London latched on to a strong session in Asia opening nicely up
XI's soothing words on tariffs, duty cuts and to speed up access to the insurance sector helped sentiment. Miners were much in demand - Anglo +5% - BHP up 3.5% though utilities were dumped as investors moved out of defensives. Centrica -1.3% United Utiliity -3% as BG announced another hike in energy prices. O...lies had a good day on ME tensions (sanctions on Iran) and S.Arabia favouring extending supply cuts to 2019, BP added 12 to (505) and 'never sell' Shell 47 up to (2419). Sterling moved to a 2wk high as a BOE official said there should be no delay in raising rates. On the political front Trump and his advisors have started to lay the groundwork for a possible strike against the Assad regime. The US has moved a battleship into the Med. Talks with Britain and France are on going re the Syrian situation. London finished at 7267 (+72) the 250 up 192 (19675) & the s/caps 39 better at (5676). Across the pond the Dow was racing up - over 500 briefly boosted by XI's moderate tone, the oil price rise ($65.27) - energy stocks Exxon & Chevron benefitting and 28/30 Dow components in the blue, 9/11 S&P sectors higher and the volatile techs up 144 to (7094) a 3% ytd gain. In the last hour gains were severely trimmed on news of the FIB raiding D.Trumps lawyer offices. With on going investigations into Russian 'meddlings' and Stormy 'hush money' Daniels co:operating with the FBI, Trumps has more than enough on his plate. The nos:
Oil $70.77 - Gold $1340 - Vix 20.4
£$ 1.42 - £€ 1.15 - Bcon $6775 -
Silva $16.58 - FF (-20) & DF (-95).
Kurd o...lies were mixed Gkp u/c, DNO off a tad and G knocked 9 which was probably down to some old fashioned profit taking. I read no more than that into it. Good morning all.
