A blue finish for London stocks yesterday after a horrid October which saw the 100 fall 390. The ftse closed at 7128, the All gained 50 to 3904 & the 250 added 250 to18918. All indexes fell over the month. None of the ever present worries are going away anytime soon. BOE will announce on rates this morning likely to remain u/c. A 240 point rally yesterday and 670 over last 2 days has way to go to alter investor sentiment over the pond.. Yesterday saw all 3 indices well off their best aggressive selling late on took 200 off the Dow. Nine out of eleven S&P sectors have had their worst ever October declines. What now? Is the worst over for the year is the question most asked. Bulls say the mrkt is well oversold the bear case remains the same. The Dow gained 241 to close Oct at 25116 a 1342 decline over the month, the S&P pushed on 29 but 200 down in Oct & the Nsdq added 144, falling 730 during Oct. Nov looks like starting lower. The Far East is mixed, TK -280, HK up 532 & SH up 31 as Nov kicks off. The Nikkei was slammed by telecoms heading south on price cuts and HK and SH both rising strongly on techs rallying on back of Apples new offerings. The nos: Oil$ 75.46. I don't trust the manic movements on the Dow yet to factor in the falling Yuan v $ (6.973) was (6.26) back in January. Remember China owns c.$1 trillion of US Govt Bonds think what might happen if China decided to dispose of them on Bond mrkts? Orderly or otherwise there would be a huge economic shock which could push up US rates, stoke inflation and choke growth. Donald accuses China of manipulating the Yuan but it's been sold down on trade tariff worries started by Trump, making their exports more competitive thus widening the US trade deficit with China. The US cannot compete with Chinas huge cheap labour force and while the $ is the most widely traded currency many think the Yuan rates equal in importance. That's the ace in China's hand. Let's hope they don't play it.

Mon up, Tue down, Wed up....red or black, lovely action for traders. I should take the 10 but holding in the belief we hit the years low close of c.205 last Wed and heading back up to 252 on Oct 1st.

Dow futures see ftse jump 60 at open.

London was blue yesterday the 100 put on 10 the All just 8 and 250 gained 101. Aim was off 6. Ocado once again led the leader board (+5%) and miners gained. Sterling slipped to $1.27. Shares in Europe were off the DAX -48 & CAC down 11 on political worries, zero growth, bank debts & Italy hugely indebted. US mrkts rallied yesterday from one of the worst 2 day wipe-outs on Trump interview saying he will come to a 'great' deal with China. The turnaround shows how skittish investors have become with stomach churning volatility ruining prices by the minute. Astonishingly the US consumer confidence index is at an 18 year high suggesting the wild gyrations of US mrkts has not dented consumer confidence. The Dow gained 431, the 500 up 42 & Nsdq added 111. The FAANG stocks which drove the mrkt into record territory a few weeks ago has derailed stock prices nudging them into correction territory. The 3 main indexes all well down in October. In fact the 500 is near another unenviable record of posting 16 down days this month. One more will equal the worst run since 1970. 3Q nos keep coming in, Coca Cola added c.3%, Phizer fell 1% and GE cut its dividend on poor nos which tanked the stock 9%. The brutishness of the rout in techs has wiped out $120bn of Amazon's value down $8 yesterday to $1530. Facebook user nos flat in US lower in Europe but $4bn profits in 3Q shares up $4 to $147. October retains its ability to scare the bejesus out of investors the Dow down 1583 points. Asia is having a better day a small rally is underway despite weaker demand nos from China. The Nikkei is up 420 supported by strong Co earnings among autos and electricals. HK is up 260 on better sentiment and Tencent rebounding 3% with energy stocks well represented. SH is up 35 despite the official manufacturing PMI at 50.2 down from 50.6 (consensus) its lowest reading since 7/2016. The non manuf nos showed similar weakness. SHCOMP off 21% ytd. The Yuan is at its lowest v the US$. The nos: Oil $76.38. Gold $1229. £$ 1.27. £€ 1.21. Coin $6282. Vix 23.35. FF +32 & DF up 47. Morning all.

Uber bear Jim Cramer CNBCs market analyst predicts more gloom for US stocks. Having called 2/3 of the last busts he says right now the mrkt is pointing to a rapid fall similar to 2007/8 which he says is an ongoing "slow motion train wreck." He contiued..."We have a Fed that is totally unaware of the danger, making the same mistakes and misjudging how weak parts of the economy are". Will the Fed change its hawkish stance on rates which seems unlikely or will Trump dial back on tariffs? Either option looks to be a zero sum game while tweet-oric from the Donald keeps getting front page on the Wall St Journal and dealers react accordingly. What a bloody way to run mrkts! Glad I'm.... out bar a small holding here.

I have just deleted 38 unwanted and unread posts from goodness who & to what purpose? I'm sure others suffer from a similar problem. Is there any method of stopping these by and large 'nuisance calls' clogging up my memory bank and ******* me off? For anyone to seriously believe that I /others would act on unsolicitated posts from the blue....well, effn forget it.

For a pis who cannot predict me waking up tomorrow, I look on in amazement at the sp decline... ...not I might add the constructive, rational comments of posters trying to make sense of the recent falls. Have to say the politics of the region leave me hopelessly out of my depth despite Lems recent posts and I hardly need further confusing. That leaves me with little alternative but to buy and hold...or suck it and see...hardly a basis for buying a Kurd o...lie! There we are beggars can be choosers and i have made my choice for better or worse in the belief that sanity will prevail.

Hovering around the +/- level as Dow futures are off over 110 pts from high. Currently called 20 up.

Should G ever consider paying a dividend it certainly wouldn't be on the scale of Bp's 6% yield. At a guess a 5-6 pps div would yield between 2-3% at current sp. A 1p dividend (c.0.5%) yield would cost c.£2.8m so easily affordable.

Going down well c.20 up atm and 11% up ytd. They pay out a healthy dividend c.30p last year yielding c.6%.

Still 60% controlled by the tax payer who rescued the bank in a £45bn bail out might be returned into the private sector by '24/25, at least thats the plan. In the Budget documents the Treasury aim to sell its remaining stakes when it represents value to do so. So far they have lost on the deal with the shares at half the level they were rescued at (500). The last sale cost the taxpayer £2bn. Now In profit and a 2p interim div paid out is progress but ytd the stock (230) is down 19%. Profit for the tax payer looks illusory.

Those 'two pieces of work' Shahenshah and his mate Ullah have been banged up for 6 and 5 years respectively. They will appeal on the grounds that the SFO has fundamentally misconstrued this offence.

The Dow blew a mighty big fuse yesterday, at one time being 566 ahead it slumped 245 closing at 24443 and that flattered by a late pull back of c.200. At one time the Dow had entered 'correction' territory at 24120. The Nsdq a clear 160+ points up tanked 117 and similar action on the 500 and small caps. Trumps latest tweets on extending tariffs on Chinese goods reared its head again. Investors are in no mood for any negativity and have become ruthless on any hint of bad news. Boeing fell c.7% ($23) & was responsible for 160 of the Dows (price weighted) fall being the most influential component of the 30 owing to its heavyweight price of $353. Though the Dow is seen gaining today at open investors will tread warily. Asia has reacted calmly to the violent swings seen in US mrkts all are trading up into the afternoon session. Nikkei +340, HK adding 50 & SH up 44. While tariffs are the main concern local factors dominate the trading. HSBCs good 3Q nos were as forecast. Earlier London was blue throughout, the 100 up 87 (7026) & the 250 gained 214 boosted by the Dows early advance. Little in the budget for corporates but House builders were boosted on the Chancellors support, smokers were down on duty hikes and HSBCs 28% profit increase in Q3 helped mrkt sentiment. Holding fast atm bunks quite pleased with today's rise which was in line with many others despite the OP off c.30c and a muted response from the city over the budget and the worries of a 'no deal' Brexit. Almost certain I will hold till the year end though i cannot see any significant progress sp wise outside of an 'event'. Perhaps c.240 might be the ball park price which would do fine for all those in sub 150.

Steady start this morning in the far East, 2UP/2Down. TK & HK led the gainers though trading is very quiet the mrkt still digesting last weeks sell off. The Nikkei +110 with Honda rallying ahead of an earnings report. HK was up 50 early morning awaiting HSBCs 3Q nos with property stocks advancing and Tencent slightly better after posting a 17 month low last wk. By mid day the Hang Seng had turned down 13. SH continues lower, down c.1.50% with the small cap Shenzen Comp off 1.26% mostly on local factors & South Korea down 6 with bell weather stock Samsung ahead 1% but chips were down. The world index (MSC1) opened lower after falling 3% last week and ytd is down c.7.50%. The MSC1 consists of 23 markets countries and c.85% of the free float mrk cap in each country made up as follows. USA 54%, Europe 14%, EM 12%, Japan 8%, UK 6% & Canada 3% others 3%. Ftse & Dow futures predict a better opening this morning with oil little changed ($77.59) after $78.00 (morning high). London called up 55 & the Dow +80 atm. Morning all..

Here are Oct nos from 2013 to present. 2013. Up 490 (+3%) 2014. Up 320 (+2%) 2015. Up 1380 (+8%) 2016. Down 166 (-1%) 2017. Up 970 (+4%) 2018. Down 1770 (-7%) to date. So not all bad only 2/6 down Octobers which as you know has a + 0.87% return on average. The Dow has however gained 11584 (88%) since Jan'13 to present. Compare that to the ftse Up 1042 (18%). Historically the mrkt suffers a 5% drop every 18 months or so on average. Trouble is the Dow has now gone 7 years without a drop of this magnitude. An academic study/report says that the Mrkt will ecpierience a 5% session plunge every 18 months or so on average and a 10% drop every 13 years. So if the stats are right are we overdue a drop of 5-10%.... or did we just escape one?

That was the week that wasn't! The Oct sell off cont globally on Friday, London though closing off lows still fell c.1-1.75% and the 100, All & 250 are 10-11% down ytd with the S/caps off 10% and All Aim down 8%. October has not been kind to equities the 100 for instance has lost 570 (7%) mtd. No change in N.Y. The Oct sell off has erased c $5 trillion from stock & Bond mrkts this mtd, though significantly $15 trillion has been added since Oct'17. Some megacaps Q3 nos failed to excite mrkts which added pressure to the slide in stock prices. The Dow fell 296 and 756 over the wk the S&P off 47 and 109 the Nsdq down 151 & 282 on wk. Surprisingly the 30 &500 are little changed ytd the Nsdq still 4% ahead ytd after the Oct rout (-880/11%). Asian mrkts were down across the board on Friday. Over Oct to date TK is down 12%, HK off 11% & SH 8%, all are well down on the year SH bringing up the rear 21% lower. The nos: Oil $77.73. Gold $ 1235. £$1.28. £€ 1.12. Vix 24. Coin $6446.
