Trump chat on trade talks"going very well" boosts Far Eastern mrkts.
TK up 250, HK gaining 633 & SH adds 41 on talks being extended for the 3rd day.
Apple component makers in HK surged over 4% (Sunny Optical 7%) as Apple shares ($150) bounced off $140 lows.
In TK the Nikkei is up for the 3rd day running a widespread rally underway in techs, beverages & steel.
Commentators warned invstrs over being too optimistic re the talks which are not expected to resolve the basic problems yet....more a step ladder to further meetings.

Overnight the Dow had a good day, 3rd straight (Trump chat) adding 256 to (23787) and +460 ytd
while the Nsdq pushed on 74 to (6897) & +262 ytd. Both S&P and R2000 similar gains.

The nos: Oil $59.56. Gold $1283. £$ 1.274. £€ 1.111.
$Y 6.83. Coin $4003. MSCI 469. FF+52. DF +93.

Never trust iis. They usually sell out at the first whiff of trouble even if unfounded. You wouldn't believe the speed of several large iis invested in my blood thing dumping stock for major losses and that was prior to going private.
So as regards G and any offer having driven the sp to bargain basement level
who on earth is going to offer 300+ given the massive amount needed to develop the gas and Som in poss a low oil price environment.

DNO 'slate' Faroe for misleading statement to the mrkt re its assets (reserves) at its ODA field.
Now being downgraded from 47m to 32.7m a 30% fall which will impact production profiles.

True boyo but as ever the 'promise' of untold riches is better than none. Your right G is getting bailed out by DNO which despite the nos is getting clobbered by the mrkt. Until G finds a way to deliver Som the sp will struggle imo. Come what may G needs 60k+bopd. Less than this we'll be seen as a bit prt player. Som could help and it was more in that vein that G should 'hurry up' an asset that our % would be 50. Miran and BB another long on promise short on delivery. The bod are not exactly sweating the assets are they?

You make some good points boyo. I agree the 400 a share looks a long shot, 300 a possibility should the OP track upwards to c $70 and certainly by Q1 end. The sense that all will be alright on the night doesn't do it for me. As you say G men are extremely bullish about the upcoming nos
which the mrkt are fully aware of so imo the stock is likely to rise but not by much.
How dependent G is on good news coming out of Somalia in the next couple of years i dont know but a hurry up is needed. Jeez its not as if we havent the cash to 'seize the day'....is it? The stalling statements from the bod on all things Som since at least 2015 ain't good enuff.
Lets hope we get full disclosure re Som and are the oil to commercialisation a prospect or something more tangible. Surely G must know if there is oil that is easily recovereable. Jeez I know all things oil take forever and a day but.....come on!

On a day to day basis G is impossible to evaluate from a 'nos' man so that's where boyo comes in with his 'squiggly' lines...by the way boyo how are the runes doing for you?
I guess your still holding lem so fingers crossed '19 will prove at least the performance of '18 if not a lot.. lot.. better.

Morning H. All part of the managed manipulation...As most here have suspected for yonks. Sometimes tie-ups are announced along-side the results for a double 'whammy' effect. That would put us in the $bn leagues...heh heh heh!

Here's some more nos of interest which might dispell the gloom of Dec. The way earnings growth rate in Q1 2019 for the S&P 500 stocks is c.17%. If proved on the money that will be the best growth Q since the 19% back in 2011 and the 500 is up over 90% since then.

Of the 11,000 ratings on stocks watched by Factset the S&P 500 has a buy rating on 52% a sell advice on 5% and a hold on 43%.
So despite the gloomy Dec almost the worst on record those nos point to a fundamentally sound mrkt. So watch Q1 for if the nos fall short investors will be pretty ruthless in dumping shares. The other point to consider is can equity earnings progress at that rate given that US growth nos are expected to fall below last years and are already being impacted by Trumps protectionist policies.

Follow on from the strong US jobs report and rebounding shares on NYSE, Asia is strongly up across the region led by Japan the Nikkei regaining Fridays losses (452) currently up 540. Motors (Honda & Toyota) both up 3% and a raft of techs moving better has buoyed invstr sentiment. HK up 173 follows the trend led by I Phone component makers Sunny Optical & AAC both c.2% to the good.
SH & SK both heading up but but in quiet trading with Taiwan helped by Apple stocks is 203 higher. Some Asian commentators are calling the bottom of the mrkt on hopes of an agreement on trade talks ongoing atm. A tad premature i think. Anyways.....

Yes whitehat I held a spec position in gold for c. 2 months making a few quid. I'm out now. As you know Gold has been a poor investment these last 3 years (- c.$200).
If and when id be in stocks as a preference to gold this year....depending on the usual worries going away. I'm prepared to wait till we know the Brexit outcome for starters.

No idea JustinD they rarely give us an even break on results days. Could go either way. I have been disappointed too often by mrkt reaction to be anything other than at cross purposes re their evaluation of all things G.
Others will be more bullish I'm sure.
