One EU diplomat compared Mr Cox to Pontius Pilate, washing his hands before ordering the crucifixion of Christ. The crucifixion being of course, the meaningful vote.
“The QC has probably got a brilliant mind,” the diplomat said, “until it’s made it up”.
“He’s a criminal lawyer, giving advice on EU law, customs and a Withdrawal Agreement he didn’t negotiate. Anyway it is up to MPs now to weigh the deal and decide whether they want a deal or what seems to be most likely a no deal.”
Mr Cox had already won few friends during his week in Brussels. He had committed the cardinal sin of calling the indomitable Sabine Weyand, the deputy chief Brexit negotiator, “my dear” during talks.
He ruffled so many euro-feathers that Michel Barnier read out a newspaper interview with the Attorney General to a meeting of EU-27 ambassadors as an example of British bad faith.
I say he did what he was asked to do and the EU - so PC that they love anything but hetero - just like BBC.
Cox did not cast the asides - the WE did. May your prostate problems continue Junket
