1] Iclaprim, Motif's new drug, attacks folate production, which is a novel way of killing bacteria.
This means there will be no resistance to Iclaprim as opposed to other antibiotics. - [Seeking Alpha]
2] The situation has now developed to the point where there are no effective antibiotics left to treat some infections.
In the United States, infections due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria affect around 2 million people per year and account for 23,000 deaths.

Now, the insurers will be on board as the hospital visit is cheaper than the comparator.
Ivy has told us we have to get the hospital and doctors on side as well. Very easy - MTFB points out that by using Iclarprim - you have satisfied your duty of care to the patient by choosing the only non resistant AB.
The underlying message however is if they don't, knowing ab resistance is costing 23,000 lives annually just in the US, both the hospital and the doctors open themselves up to negligence and malpractice lawsuits - and I'm sure the lawyers will be up to date in our AB unique selling point.
The doctor could lose his job, pension and possibly home or indeed freedom – knowingly subscribing a resistant AB when the doctors knows there was a non resistant one – and in the light of the 23,000 annual deaths gives a case for criminal negligence – and the hospital will be a party to any proceedings. In short, they ain’t going to risk it when there is no upside at all
And all this means MTFBs penetration will be huge - partners will be [or even are] queuing up for such an opportunity. MTFB’s immediate addressable market is 2m patients – they will get many of those. And that’s just the start.
Its the good old stick and carrot concept - use FDA approved drug thats non resistant or get sued to kingdom come.
Just need the BOD to hammer this home with discreet but very direct presentations to the industry – including lawyers.
