Saxman, there is no guarantee that there will be further interest rate increases; the housing market is in danger of stalling, so mortgage providers may be in a position of having £bns to lend whilst demand is not there. Think back to 2008, and the late 1980's and early 1990's for a weird mortgage climate. I have always favoured a fixed rate, but can foresee mortgage rates dropping back a bit. There is a lot to consider right now. JJ

There is good news in the announcement e.g. inflation down to 3% within the year. Unemployment to rise; will wage claims fall? The rate rise is already factored into new mortgage deals. Some new borrowers expected to go for a tracker in the hope that mortgage deals will be more attractive in 2024 and beyond. Much to note. JJ

Why do you think someone takes a position as a Director? Generally its because they believe they have a skill to offer for which they will be rewarded i.e. a remuneration package which may include a salary, share options etc. . For Goodluck to state the Directors are here for their salary is not defamation. You have to consider the view of the 'man on the Clapham omnibus' when taking a view. Whilst I consider our Goodluck annoying it is only banter and you will not be able to stop him expressing his view(s); certainly not through our legal system. JJ

Good morning Konan, it does not have to be bad for the employee. A more profitable business can benefit the employees and the shareholders. Businesses have to change, if they don't then their place in the economy suffers. You have only to consider how the John Lewis group has failed to change and as a result their employees have suffered. JJ
