I'm just surprised they alluded to mention the state lithium company!

It is estimated that the largest lithium deposit in Mexico is located in Bacadéhuachi, Sonora, previously owned by the English company Bacanora Lithium and now in the hands of Ganfeng Lithium, which according to its reports will begin producing mineral in the second half of 2024. extraction potential is 35 thousand tons per year.

Silver Valley announced plans to raise Cdn$500,000 in a private placement financing on Wednesday, with part of the proceeds earmarked for the lawsuit, which the company expects to conclude by end-2022.

“The expectation has been given from the Supreme Court of Mexico that they will provide an answer to the validity of the company’s deposit(s) considering the amendment to the mining law that was undertaken by the government this past April,” the company said in a release.

Silver Valley is in discussions with a number of interested parties regarding its Santa Clara, Caliguey and La Salada brine deposits.

Given this scenario, the Mexican government does not want to be left behind and sees the Sonora deposit with great optimism, the first of many that could be exploited for the benefit of the country. Currently that lithium, which is mainly concentrated in clay and rocks, is in private hands and is in the exploration phase.

Mexico battery factory news has dried up as far as I can see and EV plants similarly - maybe its becoming apparent that a local supply of lithium is critical short term to capitalise on the Inflation Reduction Act.

I wonder what the discussion points are with Ganfeng and the Mexican government?

A couple of points stand out:

Although the governor publicly declared that Sonora would be a co-participant in the organization, this will not be the case. According to the decree, Litio MX is part of the federal public administration and will be coordinated by the Ministry of Energy. Likewise, it has its own legal personality and assets, with technical, operational and management autonomy.
In other words, it is not contemplated that state governments have interference in it, nor is it expected that the resources generated by the future exploitation of the so-called white gold will be shared directly with Sonora, considered until now the area with the greatest potential.

Another of the errors that have been spread is the alleged assignment of Alfonso Durazo as coordinator of Litio MX, which is not established in the decree either. And it is that in its articles 8 and 9 it is indicated that the administration of the decentralized public body is in charge of the Board of Directors (made up of the heads of the secretariats of Energy -who will chair it-, Treasury, Economy, Governance and Environment and Natural Resources) and the General Directorate. Additionally, it has been said that the state company could have private participation and that is not the case either.

Durazo meets a Chinese company:

Durazo Montaño specified that he had already had a meeting with the Chinese capital company, Gangfeng and Bacanora Lithium who have the active lithium mining concession in Bacadehuachi. He said they had informed him that they already had a billion dollar budget to invest in the first stage of their mine, ** but they stopped the project due to the uncertainty of the new law which nationalizes this ore**. However, with this national company, it is possible to establish an association between the two companies and to advance in all the projects; as long as, he said, there is a commitment that the industrialization of lithium be made in Sonora.
The governor explained that this Sonora plan for the production of renewable energies envisages not only the exploitation of lithium, but also the creation of five solar power plants including the one already under construction at rocky point, and the construction of two regasification plants.

One Bacadéhuachi resident did tell us that in recent weeks there appears to be movement on the project again, and reported that some residents had been receiving enquiries about houses available for rent, which they presumed to be from relatives of company staff.

Possibly dated July as it talks about visiting the site back then although the article is dated 23rd September.
