FrankieH, caught up with trigger at last, yes someone had tethered him to a canal barge he was miles away from where I last set eyes on him.
What a picture a horse pulling a barge, now that's a thought and still quite environmentally friendly, incidentally, horses produce far less methane than ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats etc).
Your energy fears hopefully will stabilise in coming years with a mix of wind, solar + battery with economy 7 type tariffs and who knows if the government will introduce new feed-in tariffs and subsidies for domestic solar/battery.
I think the ROI on solar and battery alone is not that attractive in the UK at the moment, perhaps we will see new energy producers competing and community grids/smart grids and then you might charge your EV cheaply at the supermarket and power your home for less from the EV battery - business model innovation!
Always worth shopping around the providers, I have 100% electric from renewable sources at a rate of 12.99p / Kwh for electric and 3.55p / Kwh for gas and a daily standard charge of 19.47p for each electric and gas.
*gas I submit a Cuft reading and it appears as Kwh on the bill, they use this conversion
Meter units used 34
Volume conversion factor x 2.83
Metric units = 96.22000000
Volume correction x 1.02264
Calorific value x 39.2
Convert to kWh ÷ 3.6
If you have a smart meter you can save even more by using economy 7 and automatic billing is simpler.
