So I suppose we can add Kia Hyundai to the growing list of North American plants that could be potential customers.
CATL will supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs for Ford Mustang Mach-E sold in North America starting next year and for F-150 Lightning sold in North America starting in early 2024.
Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Co, has selected CATL's batteries for its electric Niro SUV to expand its range of battery suppliers, Hankook Ilbo said June 22, citing an unnamed Kia official.

Hyundai announced on Friday ground will be broken in early 2023 for its $5.54 billion Bryan County, Georgia facilities. Commercial production is slated to begin in the first half of 2025 with an annual production capacity planned at 300,000 units, including a “wide range of full electric vehicles,” details of which will be shared at later dates.
The battery manufacturing facility “will be established through a strategic partnership, which the details will be disclosed at a later stage” and “aims to establish a stable supply chain and build a healthy EV ecosystem in the U.S.,” the release states.
This is the first time Kia has installed Chinese-made batteries in a family vehicle, the report noted, adding that no financial or volume terms of the battery deal were disclosed.
On June 23, Chinese media Cailian quoted CATL sources as saying the report was true, without revealing any further information.
