Oh Rellim, bless his heart. My last dog was terrified of fireworks too. This has been a lovely 'waiting' thread. As mining is all about minerals and geology, I'd just like to mention about fireworks;
The ignitable chemicals and pretty colours from the dangerous elements are;
Red from strontium or lithium,
Yellow from sodium,
Green from barium and chlorine,
White from magnesium or aluminium.
They do not fully combust and descend on the ‘fallout zone’, on the ground, on vegetables, fruit trees, in river courses, animals and people.
The combustible part of the firework produces large amounts of airborne particulates that may cause respiratory problems, particularly for people with pre-existing medical conditions.
The propellant, perchlorate, is used in the world’s nuclear arsenal and is known to interfere with normal thyroid function if ingested by humans and fish – back to the river course or even fish ponds in back gardens.
It sounds more like 1917 chemical warfare than enjoyment to me.
Having lit the touchpaper, I'm off to talk to the neighbours while I still can.
