500mw FID imminent?3 Jul 2025 17:37
Today Dennis liked the news on Linkedin that H2Apex has officially acquired the 1GW Lubmin green hydrogen project from the insolvent HH2E for €7 million, securing the site and project rights — and is now planning to move forward with up to 1.6GW of renewable hydrogen production in northeastern Germany.
Right — it could be the 500MW FID ITM’s been hinting at because:
Size & Timing: The project is 1GW total, and H2Apex previously mentioned starting with 500MW — which lines up perfectly with ITM’s FID scale and Dennis’s timeline.
Location: It’s in Germany, where ITM has boots on the ground now (Berlin office, Uniper link, etc).
Recent Activity: Dennis liked the news — that’s not confirmation, but it shows he’s watching it.
Timeline: HH2E originally targeted 2026 start. If H2Apex sticks to that, a 2025 FID makes total sense.
Why this could still be ITM’s 500MW+ FID:
Project Back on Track:
H2Apex just officially closed the €7m deal for HH2E’s 1GW project, which had stalled due to insolvency. The project vehicle (HH2E Werk Lubmin) is now under new management and heading for revival.
No Supplier Named (Yet):
There’s no publicly available information confirming which electrolyser manufacturer will be used under H2Apex. HH2E had prior partnerships, but insolvency resets those — especially since suppliers aren’t locked in until FID.
Timing Matches Dennis’ Comments:
Dennis Schulz has recently said a >500MW project is nearing FID. He also “liked” this Lubmin news — not something a CEO does casually, especially on a German mega-project, unless it’s relevant to ITM.
Germany is ITM’s Strategic Focus:
ITM has expanded operations in Germany (e.g. Berlin HQ, Deutsche Bahn partnership, EU project participation). They’re clearly targeting large-scale German infrastructure.
Tech Fit:
ITM’s new 100MW+ stack architecture fits perfectly with a phased, modular 1GW project like Lubmin. H2Apex will want speed, scale, and a European-made system — all boxes ITM ticks.
