I have to agree, the evidence is certainly not ‘undeniable’, there is simply to much that can’t be quantified. Beyond all of that (and where Bcl’s article started from) I have no issues whatsoever with the world using coal, and in particular the developing world using it. This material propelled the west from hand tool back water to the society of today how dare some tit in a cappuccino bar in Chelsea tell them to ‘eat cake’ who uses more electricity trimming their hipster beard in the morning than the average Tanzanian and their family of 6 uses all day. There is some incredible stuff spouted on here. There is nothing (I have looked) to suggest (with any actual evidence) that MAST has been run improperly or illegally in the past. To put such words into print is illegal btw. Be careful.

We knew it was coming of course, however, it adds the project to the portfolio formally at least. We are a financially healthy and diversified company, now we just need MCPP over the line to move our SP to the next level. Seeing the MCIPP ML submitted would be good to as that has to be soon IMHO. An interesting angle to is the micro / small generation sector that MED can take to Africa. JD

The point is it will take 10s if millions of dollars on each project to get the feasbility studies complete alone. Kibo’s own presentation states that some $25m has been spent on MCPP alone (not counting the cost of the original prospect) just to get it to here. Where is that money coming from on any other coal project? Calorific value is one thing, what about water, transport, transmission, it could easily fall down on something else hence why you need a full BFS taking years to produce. No potential investor is ponying up that kind of investment in Tanzania currently while the country continues to be an unpredictable place for investors. All roads come back to MCPP for me. JD

This’ I find this interesting as they already have (or I guess had) a Chinese partner for this (China's Sichuan Hongda Co). There was a corruption investigation into this stalled project last year so may they have been punted and I assume this has now fallen through. Interesting to note they have no feasbility study in place, no permits or licences and the figure of $645.75m I can only assume has therefore been plucked out of this air. Years off...... JD

Decent article that for a host of reasons. Coal is far from being dead. Anything but.... The ultra-supercritical clean-coal tech they reference is GE tech of course and is the same tech going into our plant. JD

For me it all comes down to the Interconnector location and timing. There is no conceivable alternative (that I can find) to MCPP in both this location and the time it can be implemented on a 300Mw base load case. The tender exercise surely hints at this? I may be wrong in the reading of this (again time will tell). JD

In the power sector in Tanzania and well beyond in Africa as per Kibo’s strategy, sure bumps will come and go, but there is simply no other option, their own tax take and international loans of plugging the gap simply can’t do it. In the next 30+ years half the world population is envisaged as living in Africa. The population expansion is simply going to be rocket like. Kibo’s strategy of building a portfolio of financially viable power projects will (IMHO) prove to be very lucrative. This is a long game, for Kibo and the Chinese Government, I dispute how it’s a long game for one but not the other considering LCs long term states strategy? I for one am very comfortable here,l find the fretting difficult to understand. Equally I’m in no rush for an immediate return. JD

There most certainly does have to be validity in thinking LC will simply not give SEPCO a risk free entry on the ‘crown jewels’ of Kibo. There has to be some veracity in thinking Kibo will wait until giving SEPCO an entry they think is worthy of giving over (at least the chance) of first dibs on all those projects. JD

Spot on fella. All LC can do is build technically and financially feasible projects and let them stand on their own two feet. It’s a long game alright. JD
