Wise sentiments from Staying Patient. I sold everything for two reasons. 1. I don't get this market. Even before the war I felt it toppy in an increasingly difficult to understand world 2. I have a big CG and wanted to offset within the tax year.

I am sure the brave, knowledgable or foolhardy will play in this market but I don't want to. My feeling is that the Iranians will give nothing up and the US will pull back. This leaves the Israelis to do what they always said they will do and destroy the religious maniacs. They may even get the Saudis alongside. The odd thing about it all is gold. I sold mine before it dropped. Gold is supposed not to behave like this in a war scenario so that again is curiously worrying. Anyway, I am in Staying Patient's camp and treading water.

Flyingdale...you could be mightily right and mightily wrong! This is not a market that I would like to gamble in. This is not one for amateurs: it is one based on the rumour mill. Even if I miss out I accept my limitations and will keep my head down. This has moved for a US v Iran to Iran v US and most ME states who hate Iran.

I like StayingPatient's assessment. I think he is spot on. To assume as Livepari does that it's all over is a grossly over optimistic take. Staying Patient rightly examines the issue of compensation. If Trump agrees to pay it will do him enormous electoral damage so he won't. The UAE, Kuwait and Saudi will want to be compensated and Iran has no dough nor intention of doing so. The two sides of the barbaric religion have always hated each so this will be a running sore. The Iranians have always considered themselves to be a cut above Arabs so won't want to kowtow. Trump has dug himself into a large and deep hole and it is difficult to see how he will get out of it.

I am a bit like I suspect you may also be, from your comments. I sold my RR as i wanted to offset a big CGT bill. RR is a fantastic company and will bounce back. I suspect the only people selling are those like you and I. The big institutions are certainly not selling. Spreading gloom and despondency is pretty pointless

It's strange. The only bit of good luck I had was a premonition a week ago that I should be out of gold. I was in two minds but I followed my gut and got out.
