While micro-cap resources stocks seem to pop up on AIM on a daily basis, every now and then something a little bit different comes along. One such listing was financial software firm MoneySwap (LON:SWAP), which came to market at the end of August. The company was formed when a group of private investors bought out a software firm that was still in the embryonic stages of development. Since then it has developed a robust and scalable web-based software platform, and now it is poised to begin its most exciting phase yet. At its core, MoneySwap is a web-based currency exchanging service called MSEx. This exchange is linked to the group’s proprietary clearing house, known as MSPCH. MoneySwap currently plays an active role in each transaction, assuming the role of a market maker. But the group has much bigger plans as transaction volumes increase and it adopts a more passive role as its users swap currencies among themselves.

Broker Nomura downgraded the 'European Industrial Transportation' sector from bullish to neutral in January, on the basis that 2012 would deliver slow / no growth from stocks. This bearish call proved to be on the money for bus / train operator Go Ahead Group (GOG), which announced a 13% drop in interim profits even though revenues rose 5%. The stock has fallen a long way since the start of the year, but if management reassure on in-line FY results, a rebound could be on the cards, if only on short covering.

There are echoes of the Go Ahead Group fundamental struggle at military equipment maker Chemring (CHG). In January broker FinnCap poured cold water over the full year results and the 6% underlying profits rise. It also pointed out that Chemring itself was bemoaning the less than sparkling order book due the effects of Nato spending cuts and Coalition austerity measures. Given that the Sovereign Debt austerity position has certainly not improved in recent months, it seems that Chemring’s only obvious enticement to investors at the forthcoming update will be a dividend hike.

Few if any sweeteners are likely to be on offer at Kesa Electricals (KESA) as it struggles to cope with the current High Street challenges. Margins fell sharply in the Q4 update as the group attempted to maintain the all important like for like sales numbers, which were up an impressive 6.2% at so called established businesses. But even with all this fundamental huffing and puffing, broker Nomura is looking for just a 2% rise in profits this year to €106.3m, arguably still quite an achievement compared to its sector peers.

The latest numbers show that Hennes and Mauritz (H&M) has left its multi-month streak of falling sales behind. Note that last April, H&M had reported that total sales fell 1% and same-store sales fell 10%. Inditex, the other giant in the fashion industry, revealed on Wednesday that its net earnings rose 30% in the first quarter. The stock jumped nearly 12%, catapulting its billionaire owner Amancio Ortega to the top of Bloomberg's list of the richest people in Europe.

Hennes and Mauritz showed that Spanish rival Inditex is not the only one that can bask in its own success after the Swedish company presented its sales figures for May. The textile retailer revealed that total sales rose by 12% in May, the last month of its fiscal second quarter, to 36.95bn Swedish krona (€4.18bn). The market consensus was forecasting an 8% increase. Like-for-like sales rose 3% while the market was expecting a 1% decline.

Positive Points: Aggreko is providing generating capacity to the Olympics in London this summer, and also provided power for the inauguration of President Obama, the football World Cup in South Africa, and the Glastonbury music festival. In a deal worth £162 million over 2 years, Aggreko has signed power purchase deals with South African power utility Eskom and Mozambique's Electricidade de Mocambique (EDM) to supply electricity from the third quarter of this year until July 2014. Eskom will buy 92 MW and EDM 15 MW. A new contract to provide 75 MW to the Japanese utility company Hokkaido Electric Power Company (HEPCO) was also secured in the first half year. A strategy of expanding the company's footprint in fast-growing markets is delivering strong growth. Within the first half, revenue is expected to grow by 13%. Within Europe and the Middle East, business is expected to grow by around 9%, North America by around 11% and Aggreko International's Local business by about 25%. Aggreko opened new locations in Cape Town and Nairobi as well as completing the acquisition of Poit Energia in Brazil, a leading provider of temporary power solutions in South America. Diversity of both customer type and geographical location is enjoyed.

Negative Points: Uncertainty for the economic outlook in many of the group's markets remains. The company sees margins in International Power Projects to be lower in the second half than the same period in 2011, in large part due to higher mobilisation costs. New entrants may be attracted into the market by Aggreko's high returns. With much of the group's business conducted overseas, currency movements can potentially impact. Although expected, and as a result of the increased capital investment and shareholder returns, net debt as of 31 March 2012 was £428 million, an increase of £63 million since 31 December 2011.

Financial Highlights: First half underlying Group revenue is anticipated to grow by around 15% and trading profit by around 20%, reported management. Within International Power Projects, given the level of order intake seen, the group said it is to raise its fleet investment by a further £50 million to around £415 million in 2012. Overall, Aggreko anticipates that group margins for the year will be at similar levels to 2011.

Trading statement: In a brief update, the world’s largest temporary power generation company declared that is expected to deliver a strong performance in its first half year with group revenue to grow by around 15% and trading profit by some 20%. The announcement comes just over a week after the group announced that it is to build a power station for South Africa and Mozambique with its joint venture partner Shanduka Group. The contract is worth circa £162 million and involves Aggreko building gas interconnections, a major substation, and almost a mile of new cabling. The power station will be fuelled by the Temane gas fields in Mozambique and is scheduled to be up and running by the third quarter of this year until July 2014. Aggreko is expected to announce its interim results around 2nd August 2012.

Headquartered in Glasgow, Aggreko serves companies across a wide range of industries, with over 140 locations offering 24/7 services in many different countries. The group is organised around two lines of business: Local business and International Power Projects. The International Power Projects business sells power, which it delivers using temporary power plants owned and operated by the company. The Local business rents equipment to customers to respond to requirements for power and temperature control.

Underground construction group Shaft Sinkers said operations have resumed at its three Impala 17 shafts in Rustenburg, North West Province, South Africa, following completion of an investigation into the accident announced on June 11th, which led to the death of an employee of 20-years.

Phaunos Timber Fund has had a grumble about the recent decline in its share price. "The Phaunos Timber Fund remains fully invested in high quality timber-land assets. The assets have been independently valued. The directors believe that the prospects for the company in the short, medium and long term remain strong and are confident that progress is being made on all important issues." The share price has fallen over 7.0% in the past week, and 40% in the past year.

Tristel, a manufacturer of infection prevention, contamination control and hygiene products, has reported the successful launch of its new Anistel brand. One of the three major national wholesalers has agreed to stock the Anistel range, while discussions are progressing with the other two. Revenue for the year ended June 30th is now expected to be not less than £10.7m and as a result of the small adjustment to revenues the directors now anticipate that adjusted profit before tax will be no less than £650,000. The out-turn for the year may improve if the other two national veterinary wholesalers place their initial stocking orders by the end of June, the firm added. Current market expectations are for pre-tax profits of £0.9m on sales of £11m.
