The Paso del Lugo copper/nickel/platinoid project comprises a series of ultramafic extrusive and intrusive rocks near the town of Andresito in central southern Uruguay. The project area measures 1040 hectares. The sequence being investigated is considered to have originated as early stage deposition on a spreading rift floor, and a survey of data gathered by previous operators indicates that the area is very prospective for copper/nickel sulphides and possibly platinoid mineralisation. Previous work in the general area included soil sampling, ground magnetics, rock chip sampling, IP surveys and geological mapping. These programs were focussed on gold and no attention was directed towards particularly encouraging nickel, copper and chromium anomalies, which included up to 2100ppm nickel, 239ppm copper and 3800ppm chromium. At Valentines, a structurally controlled zone of Gold/Copper mineralisation has been mapped over 1500 metres (open to the east). Numerous quartz veins occur within this package, the majority of which are auriferous. Central to this package is a zone of highly silicified rocks, which extend over 500 metres east-west. The main zone of mineralisation appears to be between 10 and 30 metres wide, with a shallow dip to the south. The area exhibits extensive supergene Gold and Copper surface enrichment, and a scout drilling program testing the depth and nature of the mineralisation is underway.
