Been analysing this stock for a while, and as far as I can tell it's a deep discount to the long term value and profitability. I use skrnr.com usually to try and filter out value based stocks, this one is at the top of my lists .. it's got long term increasing profitability year on year, and looks like a good long term bet at these prices. As always DYOR etc.

Interesting company, looks cheap for what it is. Low debt, interesting growth model. Could be make or break in the next 3 years or so

Can anyone see a reason this is diving? Seems like a solid company to me - good fundamentals and a high NAV compared to price... Results are coming out soon, but the company just completed a $100m buy-back of its shares, surely this is a stock to buy?

Hi all. I was about to buy and then checked the fundamentals. Looks like it's had a very rough few years. Net assets dropped from 1,393 to just 295, and borrowing has surged. As far as I can tell, major sales of plant and property to cover shortfalls. That can't keep going on much longer surely? It's cheap but is it cheap enough?

Start of the surge... I hope so. I have been watching this stock for a long, long time. Currently it's one of the absolute cheapest stocks in the FTSE250, and it's yielding 6% with good cover. One of the UK's biggest department stores. Some vulnerability to internet competitors, but this is not HMV... which got destroyed by online sales and netflix streaming. There's no real credible threat at the moment from that arena. Buy and hold

Question: Who doesn't focus on providing quality products? Answer: Tesco, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, Morrison's, Co-Op, Somerfield, Iceland Question 2: Who does focus on quality? Answer: Sainsbury's, Waitrose, M&S. Of which, Sainsbury's is by far the most affordable option.

I'm not trying to impact the share price with my little itty bitt top ups. On the contrary, I'd rather see it drop further so that my top ups get me more shares of this lovely company. When in a crowd of sheep it's the one dyed purple standing on its head that doesn't go to the butcher. If everyone's selling, and the company's a good business, it's good to top up. Most traders / shorters are in it for the short term (less than 1 year). I'm in it for the long term

IMHO time to buy is now, and keep averaging down as the price drops (hopefully it does get to 1.50, i'd love a bargain like that) No idea where the bottom is any more, I've stopped trying to call it. The city hates this stock and wants to drive it into the dirt, so until they stop shorting, the price will keep dropping and every time it drops x pence I will buy more. Simples.

And I understand what you're saying about the sector as a whole being in decline. But sainsbury et al are not in the same boat as HMV or Game, which essentially went broke because they couldn't compete with online sales. That was a complete sector shift. But what's happening here is: we have competition from the small lidl & aldi shops. I think the competition is overstated though, especially with regards to Sainsbury's, which offers much better quality, and is not particularly more expensive (in my experience). Additionally, Sainsbury's allows you to buy everything you want in one place, while Lidl & Aldi only offer a small range of products. They're like a souped-up convenience store. So is this the death of the supermarket? Not by a long shot. My local sainsbury's is packed.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not going in 100%. More like 2-3% at the moment. But averaging down is not a risk, if the fundamental business is sound. Take a look at the value you're getting, the fact that they're making a good profit despite the small % drop in sales, the fact that they pay a dividend, and the underlying asset value.

Yes - it appears I was wrong about the bounce. Oh well. I was guessing a few weeks ago that this share could drop as far as 150p, it seemed ludicrous back then, but we're fast approaching that territory. IMHO we are already massively oversold, and the lower the price drops the more attractive the share becomes. It's not easy to catch a falling knife, but if you believe (as I do) that the underlying business is sound, then it will pay off over the next few years, even though in the short term, you watch your invested money going down and down and down... :-) I say hold and buy more at regular intervals if you can bear the short term paper loss

Even if I'm completely wrong and we do drop another 20% to 200p, this is one of the best buying opportunities you'll ever see for one of the best UK companies there is. Top up a bit here, a bit there and average down and you'll do just fine.

Hope you are all ready for the ride. Well done to those who didn't sell out. Today is the start of the bounce, yesterday's chart was a classic double dip and retreat, the bottom of the mountain. Not sure HOW far we'll bounce, but I expect 10% or so. Tomorrow is the company statement. Let's see what it holds. At least 20% profit drop is already priced in, could the news be worse than that? I highly doubt it. Economy is recovering, over the next few years wages should rise faster than inflation, and we'll be off and away. Could we see 400p within 5 years? I don't see why not.

what are you guys average holdings? Are you averaging down? I bought in at the share issue, around 10p, thought it was a great bargain as the reasons for the issue seemed solid to me, plus right after the issue the manchester contract was finally signed. Honestly can't believe the price is stuck below 10p - seems to me there is a lot of value here in this business.

Glad I bought my stake at 10p, should shoot up now, ITP received + extra cash in the coffers from OO + placing

I think the results say approximately what I expected - economy is picking up slowly; they have plenty of cash to get through the year; the debt profile looks fine and has the banks support. I can't see the company going anywhere, especially with the Olympics on the way -- shops will want refits -- and when the economy is back to normal I would think the P/E will look very very attractive at this SP.
