Averaged down again today (have been holding since early Dec 2020) via trading 212. I am registered with a UK address & have a ROI passport. No problems encountered thus far in 2021 & have not received any T212 notifications preventing me from purchasing further unit's.

I suspect the S. African variant is already in the UK population. If it is the case that the current vaccine is ineffective or works less well the scientists will tweak the current vaccine(s) to create a new vaccine to facilitate this new variant. This is what I believe they are currently doing in conjunction with the MHRA to allow for a swift approval. As someone has mentioned already I think we need to wait a few weeks for the current vaccinations to have an effect on the metrics. UK gov should really have shut the borders whenever they had the opportunity to do so last year. Unfortunately the horse has bolted & the UK gov have been struggling to manage this health crisis ever since, they have always been behind the curve. I think is why they made the decision to extend the 2nd vaccine dosage, which may come back to haunt them..... hope not. Need some patience, time will tell.

From info found on the internet the next set of IAG results is scheduled for 26 Feb 2021. Afterwhich 30 April 2021, 30 July 2021 & 29 Oct 2921 are suggested.

Is covid still transmissible in vaccinated people? If so, vax passport or not, global GOV 's may continue to require quarantine periods/tests. The international travel industry may need to wait until in country covid infection/mortality rates fall to acceptable risk levels through vaccinations in their general populations. The Israel & UK vaccinations are going really well, hopefully the USA & EU countries can progress similarly. LTH. IMO. GLA.

Hopefully the digital passport idea will gain some traction & be adopted globally ASAP. Anything that can get things moving again has got to be good for the aviation industry. Am holding long term & it has been a bumpy road thus far, but there is light at the end of the tunnel & it is beginning to get brighter. J &J vaccine will be here soon as well, onwards & upwards. @big-blue "Testing is accompanied by quarantine, why bother with the test then?". I do not understand the need for a for test + quarantine. I think vaccination & proof of is probably the only solution in getting the travel industry back, how long this will take globally is difficult to answer.

Hopefully the UK Oxford/Astra vaccine approval will be announced next week & the market will concentrate on this news. 2021 will be the year of the vaccine, just need Boris & Co to roll it out ASAP without any hiccups. GLA & happy new year.

@Spurs68. I did something similar with Aim stock Jet2, i.e. sold at a small profit pre vaccine news. Thought I was too exposed on airline stocks so sold up & diversified into other (safer??) sectors. I am a new/novice trader & put my rash decision down to inexperience/collywobbles in volatile stocks. Transatlantic flights at some point will be reinstated & I would hope for an incremental rise once this occurs. Not expecting this to happen anytime soon however, think the USA will see a surge in virus contractions & subsequent deaths over the next few months or so. Sticking with IAG for the long term in the hope that the SP reaches >250 at somepoint in the next 2 or 3 years. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we got to move on. Live & learn. IMO.

Not to worry, will be over £2 soon enough. Just need some patience. COYS.

AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to be widely distributed by end Q1 2021 - report. In remarks to Spanish broadcaster RAC1, Josep Baselga, AstraZeneca's head of Research and Development for Oncology offered that timeline assuming that "everything goes well".

He also said that AstraZeneca estimates that it will have approximately 3.0bn doses ready by the start of 2021.

Current plans are for vaccinations to consist of two doses given 28 days apart.

But the researcher argued that no one should be forced to take the vaccine, saying that the decision to be inoculated or not was an inalienable personal right.

Baselga reportedly also said that AstraZeneca was developing treatments using monoclonal antobodies, of the 16 being worked on, one was "excellent".

Hence, although a "horrible" winter lay ahead, the following summer should be "relatively normal".
