Absolutley JakeYork, its good job people don’t act like those climate idiots- who block the roads / traffic etc,,,,, by ramping up demand at critical hours so as to force and issue. Anyhow, Im just finished my bath (from emergin heater water ) & gonna nip to the garage and pop my electric pottery climn on - and get it warmed up, I might make some pots tomorrow.

Oh badland that sounds great, and thats good news, cos I'd hate to think everyone was using as much electricity as I am right now , we might have a black out ! ,, shame we dont have some of those lovley RR SMR's as a back up !

At the risk of sounding like a tin-foil hat wearer, I'd advice people to buy a diesel heater, leisure battery , solar panel (+charger and inverter), calor cooker etc . Having watched this mess unfold over the last 20years(loss of base line supply), I think the near future for this country can best be depicted by the film Soylent Green .

Needless to say 20 years of inaction and faffing around with wind turbines and solar panels at the expense of ensure a solid base line supply ; has created a country dependant on other countries via the inter connectors.

In the 80’s, domestic electricity it was about 2p kWh , 20 years agp the price for 1kWh was 5p (with no standing charge –on some tariffs) Now its nearer 30p kWh with a mandatory 65p standing charge. This is not only damaging to consumers (you and I) but more so to industry and future prosperity and safety of the country

Fordm, ive been for a walk around the block with the dog and steaming with them for claiming it wont affect working people and more so since it actually does affect people at the lower end more,, while not address the fact that CGT can be used by high earns to reduce their tax bill. anyhow - I've calmed down. :) Sorry for the rant

Investerintheknow, pretty sure 99% of people on an income under £40k are not buying RR or much oaf any other shares. So, let's not get ahead of ourselves.. - eh ! I know plenty of people who have RR on less than 40K, not even being to think of some of their staff.

Anyway, if you had hit the stock lottery, why would you draw it all down in one lump, surely drip feed it over several years?

stock lottery,, including those who earned them as members of staff, or long term holders who have added gradually, or perhaps those who put a chunk in when retiring . I expect you would be crying foul if it affected you directly. Just because it doesn’t affect you or you think people with smaller pots are less worthy , soyou try to close down a voice and dismiss the subject ?

Let me add, it may well not be noticed by people who use CGT as an instrument to avoid income tax, but for lower earners; the effect is extremely noticeable.

Infact if the telegraph calculator is correct someone on £13K will pay more than any other income if they were to sell . For example 20K bought price, 100K sold price. At differing incomes the extra that would be demanded is -

12K income - extra £1572

13K income – extra £4570

20K income – extra £4290

40K income – extra £3490

120K income- extra £3080

160K income – extra £ £3080

250K income – extra £3080

Not hitting working people hey ????, only those on the lowest incomes !

Next april (says the telegraph). And the lower middle have been screwed more than the upper income bracketss. someone on 22K is going to have to pay more, than someone on122K to sell a chunk of shares. under the new values. (as determined by playing around with the telegraph CGT calculator)
